Just saw it on BBC as well. Guess the Dems can be happy now as they are the reason why he was not confirmed.

Now we have no one representing us in the UN and they can run wild, while the Dems find some limp dork replacement who they like.

Hey, the Dems wanted it, now they have it. Lets see how fast the train wreck occurs and this one is going to be a big one.

It was a big surprise to me. But then, I'm not up on the Bolton/UN story. At any rate, I thought Bolton was confirmed - a long time ago, in fact.

Recess appointment, never confirmed. This was just a vendetta move by the Dems.

Again, oh well......much more to come.

I tend to agree here, though not about the paisley sweettarts. I think there is - for obvious reasons like Iraq - a concerted anti-American agenda in the UN. Well Bush is pretty much a lame duck, so now maybe we can get some street cred back with a bit of persuasion.

This worries me. The guys we usually debate against agree that this is not a good thing.

Jeez guys, I suppose that its time to go out and have a drink togther! We can agree on something!

Its midnight over here, so time to hit the sack. Enjoy the talk about Scotch for me!

I'm a little baffled...what is it again that the UN does? Why do we care?

The UN Security Council also provides has-been powers such as France and Russia a permanent means of intervening in the resolution of conflicts to ensure that no resolution actually happens -- witness, for example, France's rescuing of Hezbollah over the summer, or Russia and China's rescuing of Iran from sanctions over its nuclear program.

It's a great gig if you're Iran, Hamas, Hugo Chavez, or Jacques Chirac. And most of it is funded by you and me, the American taxpayer...
Shaking off the above intense, whiny, Israeli's lament; here's a more accurate picture.

The only good about Bolton was that the UN deserved him, utterly and completely. An incompetent, bullying, thoroughly boorish human being belonged there, and Bolton fit the bill perfectly.

As for France and Russia; the two countries have been doing Americans huge favors by resisting the machinations of the Bush family, and the Bush families personal thuggery the US government, for five years now; more power to them and a heartfelt thanks to them both.

Hardly, a recess appointment is a vendetta move; not the other way around.

Get this straight will you? Recess appointments are a backdoor way to get people in the door that otherwise should be shoveling cowshiit in Albania or worse.

It's just part of the massive cleanup campaign. We won't be reversing just some of Dubya's decisions. If he had made one that was rational, we'd leave it alone. Fasten your seatbelts. The Dems need to repair EVERY SINGLE DECISION he has made.

I really do feel sorry for Dubya. Really I do. I don't think he really understands what's going on. I think he's viewed this as a game of sorts, and I think his psyche requires a bit if successful megalomania. He's had his moment in the Sun and the one thing he really wanted, a positive legacy, is doomed. He is the lamest of lame ducks and all his decisions will be eliminated because of their complete failure. It will be difficult for him to watch. Very difficult. I honestly imagine that he might off himself. His failure has been of epic proportions. Now, more than ever, he needs to separate himself from the truth everyone else knows.

Since the SlowPat post above is so assinine as not to be worthy of a response, I'll take the liberty of a copy/paste of my own:

"They chose to obstruct his confirmation, even though he enjoys majority support in the Senate, and even though their tactics will disrupt our diplomatic work at a sensitive and important time," Bush said. "This stubborn obstructionism ill serves our country, and discourages men and women of talent from serving their nation."

We only hear W quoted when he steps on his tongue (no shortage of material). In this case, he nails it. It's called giving credit where credit is due.

The only problem with that is that it's utter nonsense. "Bullyboy" Bolton's nomination was doomed from the start. The recess appointment was the childish Bush thumbing his nose at the Senate.

Had he been given a vote he would have been confirmed. It was the Dems that pulled the childish move by blocking him from receiving a vote. But this is a matter of opinion so whatever, prattle on.

This would be Bush "The Uniter" talking, wouldn't it?

Yeah, the Left "disrupted the *diplomatic* work" of GWBs Kingdom! HA!

"I'll be honest with you, I love his music, I do, I'm a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman"."
