Choosing one's ride for the day...

Moving the subject to a separate thread, Rick V. began with a photo grouping of his selection of fine German engineering, on his front lawn.

Now, I can't do that, I don't have a front lawn, and haven't taken photos of all the cars together. So I'm posting them separately. Oldest first.

1972 BMW 3.0 CSi, first sold in Italy, brought to CA in 1985. Not currently operational pending new injectors, and a couple of other things. Now has a 5-speed and 3.64 limited slip. Duplicate of the factory exhaust in Stainless steel.

1987 535is, five speed, 3.64 limited slip, M30B35 engine (project), Comforti chip, M-Technics suspension, M5 front and rear stabilizer bars, euro-spec M5 front fascia and bumpers.

1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, speaks for itself, but, it's new rebuilt Targa top should be here Monday or Tuesday, and the refinished 16 inch wheels whenever Harvey Wiedman finishes them. It has a Wong chip and a euro-spec pre-muffler with O2 sensing.

1990 325i Cabriolet, five speed, 3.73 limited slip, H&R springs, Bilsteins, Comforti chip, Ireland Engineering cat back exhaust in stainless, AC Schnitzer 15x7 wheels.

2000 540I Touring Sport, stock. This is my wife's car, I get to drive it every two months or so, if I'm nice.

My take? It is clear that the 3.0 CSi suffers from neglect and needs the kind of TLC only I can offer.

I have BMW provenance, which should clinch the deal.

Have trailer will travel.

Ok I'll play.

Pat I want that 3.0. As I told you before I will have one of those, did you have to post that? I have one friend who just bought an RSR roller, and now this..............Ya'll killing me.
When I retire 8years,2months from now, I'm going to grab a 3.0 for a re-hab project. I'm thinking 4.0 and a 6spd from an E34M car.

Would an M5 engine be sufficient?

No, the parts are getting hard to find and the output is a little slacking by comparison to the newer stuff. It would be easier though and it does look just plain old mean!
I like the M30's and wish I hadn't sold mine but, you know the story. no need to bring it up again.

You had better let me see that car, We don't live that far apart! That car is also too clean for me to cut up and mod.

Oh yeah.....................you suck!

I wish I could make it happen, but Pat has driven too hard a bargain. I will be picking up the Cabriolet for a song, however

So the 3.0 is staying at home? cool, Pat I'll call you in 8 years. Don't forget I have a set of M52 injectors if you want to mod a newer fuel rail. They are yours for the asking. I would love to see you get that car back on the road, or at least leave it in my driveway...........not yours.

The black coupe not only has an M5 engine in it, it has an entire e28 suspension under it as well. The owner, a car enthusiast par excellence (and plastic surgeon near San Luis Obispo), owns a "number of cars" in his words. They include a couple of Vipers, and so forth. He and his brother did the work on the coupe for the most part.

There was also a silver coupe with M5 equipment.

And Paul Cain's famous 3.8 liter coupe.

Paul is a "spare no expense to get exactly what you want" kind of guy.

OK, I'll play: here's some of our toys, arranged in "candy cane" configuration for Christmas. (did not include non-red/non-white or the old truck or the van)...

Hey, I had a '65 Monza 140hp, I loved that car. Junky by today's standards, but fun. One of my bud's had a 260 powered Mustang that couldn't believe I could stay with him in my Corvair.

You had a pretty rare one there, Pat. Most of the 140's were placed in the Corsa (or you could get the turbo)...Although I know you could special-order them in just about any configuration. Knew an old Porsche salesman from here who had a Corvair 500 with a 140/4 plus the quick-steering arms & box. I learned to autocross in the early 70's in one, much to the chagrin of some 911 owners. fun cars! (and yes, we do use them as daily drivers as well)...

Years ago in Berlin I helped a fellow pilot restore a 3.0 over the course of several years. Very nice car but you really have to be careful with rust as his body was full of it.

Always liked the look of this model... but miss having an old 2002 Tii as well.

I would almost kill to get my hands on Beths old 2002tii. It's still around (her ex got it in the divorce) and sold it. I also hate the puke who got it, it wouldn't take too much convincing to get it back. He just won't sell. It also just sits and hasn't been started for several years.......................A-Hole!

Find out if the prick has any friends, and see if they'll tell you what's up with him. It could be he had an "arrangement" with Beth's ex.
