Meteorites!

Have any of you witnessed impressive fireballs? I saw one on Christmas eve night around midnight here in OC back in 1988. Absolutely awe-inspiring.

Actually, I think those are meteors. I don't think it's a meteorite until it hits the ground. I've seen a few impressive ones in my life. I'd like to head out to the desert looking for some meteorites. Apparently it's not that hard to find them if you know how/where to look.

When I was 13 yo I delivered the morning paper. One very dark, but clear morning a large meteor lit up the sky brighter and a lot longer than a lightning strike. No noise that I remember though, too far away to hear a sonic boom.

I saw my second one since about 40 years ago last month. Meteorites are mundane compared to a fireball. The one I saw was an orange/red one.

Seen a number. Cool stuff. The meteor showers we get twice a year a cool to watch as well.

I saw quiet a large one break up in the sky when I was about 17. Amazing how you could see it tumble and break appart.
