Blue Devil Corvette

Being in the Detroit area, it is a daily occurrence to see disguised preproduction cars running the highways. These guys decided to make their own ...... remember seeing "spy" photos of this circulating around a while back?

Well they did a lousy job if 'imitating' what the car makers do. The big point of all the tape, foam..etc. is to disguise the overall shape of the car. In that photo above, you can clearly see the real lines of the car.

You'd be surprised how much a single 1 inch wide black tape stripe running along the side of the car can do to change the overall appearance of the profile of a car.

BTW: I see a few of the real disguised cars - both at my company (MBUSA headquarters) and some Bimmers from down the street (BMW of North America hq.)

My spy pictures are still posted up at AutoWeek.

Link:
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061106/FREE/61106004&SearchID=73264927523427

EDIT: They sent me an e-mail with the same link, and took the pictures off the AutoWeek website.

The license plate and lack of supercharger noise always made me wonder what was really going on.

The one I took pictures of was not as fancy looking as the one on the website, no foam flares and was driven by a woman they make no mention of.

Z, in this case they were just trying to make it look like the rumored Blue Devil - basically a C6 Corvette with a big motor. The shape is the same, but they added the hood scoop and flares to make it look like this was some sort of evolution model. Apparently, it worked!
