Help.. Hyundai automatic tranny

Anybody out here have experience diagnosing/ repairing Hyundai Automatic transmissions?

Am working on a '97 Hyundai Elantra for my wifes friend, that I just went and picked up in the freezing cold with my flatbed.
I drained the fluid which was black and burned, but no chunks. Refilled with proper ATF and tested pressures. All pressure checks seem to be ok at Idle, and when dropping into "D".

However, It seems a couple of bands or solenoids are defective, as I can't get the car to engage into reverse. When test driving in drive, I hit about 25-30mph, as the tranny shift to what should be second gear, the engine simply revs and doesn't engage. As the engine rpms decline, the transmission again engages (1st gear).

Any advise is appreciated. You know the story... She is a broke college student, I'm the friendly mechanic. I have worked on Sube, Porsche, Chevy, Ford. Auto trannys, just wondering if anyone has a site with more info on the Hyundai tranny.

Thanks
-Nick

Similar thing happened to my receptionist's car.

On her car a speed sensor went bad and the car was confused and did not know what to do.

A '97 Hundai? Time to throw it away.

Band /clutch material is wasted. Most auto trannys use 2nd gear planetary for reverse. Which is why it will not go into reverse or 2nd.

Best bet is a used unit from a reliable yard
