What is a '73 240Z worth?

An auction I go to has one coming up and it looks solid from the pics. It is however an automatic

Any reason I should have an interest in this car?

No. Hold out for manual. 240Z's are fun, not as much fun as a 911, but fun none the less.

Look for rust, especially in the front unibody area in the front suspesion area along with the area near the top of the tailights. If the car is solid, I might be interested if you are not.

My '72 I used to have, was an auto to start with, but I replaced it with a 4 spd (I really wanted a five spd but funds at the time in college were EXTREMELY limited). I really loved that car and as an adult, I would love to trick one out properly.

Thanks Tim, this would be a buy it and maybe flip it/maybe store it for later when I hope to have time and $ to do something. This auction is not usually for cars and cetainly not this type so I am guessing I can steal it. But if it's not really worth anything I'll forget it.

I've had a 240Z and a 280Z.

Rust and U-joints are the main concerns.

They are very fun little cars when sorted out.

I've seen very nice cars go for $5-10K, beaters in the $1-4K range.

Honestly, I wouldn't get an auto. Swapping in a manual isnt that hard though.

Just buy it then maybe next year you will post a "steal my 240z" thread and I can rob you of another car!

FIRST DIBS!!!

PS, I just changed the oil in the Audi and now it has developed a leak..... I am guessing you did not use synthetic and now that I switched to it I think I have developed the dreaded "high mileage switch to synthetic leak" Oh well, nothing that a few new seals won't probably fix.

I'm not certain, but wasn't '73 the year of the ill-fated 260Z? I thought by '72, the 240Z was finished. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Due to smog, '73's got different carbs but was still a 240. The '71 and '72 cars were the best IMO. I've had 4 240's, great cars.

Mid 73 is when the 260 started. The 73 also had bad carbs from the factory, but these can easily be changed to the 72 or earlier setup. Or go to triple Webers even in Krazy Kalifornia. The 260 is not a bad car w/o the smog cr@p and can easily be converted either earlier or later (engine/tranny etc).

If you can get a solid one for under 1500 even w/an auto it's a good deal Len.

If U can buy the car and flip it for a 500 profit, it beats working for a living...

Almost no value unless you're an unscrupulous guy that's willing to sell it to a teenager that doesn't know any better.

I got taken on a 72 240Z automatic. I was a teenager that didn't know any better. Bought it for $1500, sold it a month later for $400 to a junk yard.

I made up for it by buying a pristine 78 280Z and then sinking a stupid amount of money into it and selling it a large loss. I'll never do that again... oh wait, I just did
