Scotch drinkers unite!
I always thought that I knew good scotch from bad. I thought tipple like Laphroaig and Glenmorangie were good.
That is, until I opened a bottle of this stuff earlier tonight..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, what's your favourite?

I am very partial to Oban and Isle of Jura (either 16 year or Superstition). Did the whiskey trail in Scotland a few months ago, it was a lot of fun.

I'm sure I don't have the pocketbook some of you guys do, but I really like Jameson Irish Whiskey for an everyday. Got some in my office right now

Try some 12 year old Balvinie. Then you will have seen the light. Well, that is until you try some of the 21 year old Balvinie...

You're right on the money. The Macallan 12 Year old is my favourite all rounder. Occasionally I need something really peaty like a Laguvalin (sp?) - but the Macallan 12 is very close to perfect as far as I am concerned.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is my favorite
![]() Macallan 12, 18 & 25 are very nice as well. Had a Cadenhead's Islay recently that was very good too.

Many consider Macallan 12 to be the benchmark for single-malt Scotch. It is very characteristic of good highland malts and is not nearly as peaty as your Laphroaig. It is definitely my favorite.
To me Laphroaig smells like a dirty ashtray, but I do love it.

Personally I like islay whisky, especially Ardbeg, but the lagavullin posted by Arcsine is very nice to. If you like a smoother whisky without the iodine taste try Highland Park.

I prefer Kapogue Castle Single Malt Irish...but since this is about Scotch.
My ususal staple for Scotch is Macs 18 year...I bought 10 bottles for $400... awhile back... Trader Joes has/had a 10 year Mac for $20 a bottle...its under a Trader Joes lable but says on the bottle Mac...

The Balvenie distills very good scotch, particularly their 21 year old. I used to think there was little that could top Balvenie's 21 yo until I tried Bruichladdich the Twenty, second edition which unfortunately is no longer available. So gooooood! The XXII is probably similar.

Yeah, I know it isn't Scotch, but Middleton Rare is my choice.

Springbank cask strenght comes to mind, though I have a personal preference for the 20+ Balvenie just now.

And Stijn,
If you feel like tasting some, feel free to drop by. A bowmore and a Laphroigh (both cask strenght) in my stock are just waiting to be tasted
