Yes, functionally, that's exactly what it is. The current ones operate for a long time on a set of batteries, I think like 700 to 900 hours on lithiums.

Still rember seeing my first picture of a FAL in 1961 though it looked a bit different than Pat's. Would love to find wooden furniture for mine.

Ironwood Designs makes wood furniture for FAL's, and other firearms. They're in San Jose, CA I think.

"One shot, one kill" is what real men use. Auto's or semi-auto's are for the targets...

Thanks for the link, hadn't seen that before. I keep hoping for a take-off set to show up that isn't beat to s*it. What a dreamer, huh?

Best bite the bullet and pick one. The first one's used the weird, hard to find "N" batteries only, mine uses "AA" batteries, and now they've introduced the model that takes the same lithiums used by Surefire and other high performance flashlights. The quick release on the battery compartment is a positive change too, the first one's had an allen screw attachment.

I just (two days ago) bought the 512 from OpticsPlanet, for less than advertised on Pat's link above. Free UPS and a Free Scope cover (scopecoat). The 512 runs on AAs and will get 1000+ hours per set of batteries.

Shipped to my door, with a free scope cover, it was 340.

Oh, it's going on my new Beretta Storm (.45 ACP).
