Isn't there a European country that requires every household to own a rifle?

The Cherry Tree ordinance was voted down, I believe 6 to 1 last night.

I don't think government has any business telling the citizenry about what they should (or should not) do about their own defense. Even though I strongly support the right of access to any weapon (not just firearms), my reaction to thise would be to tell the town council to mind their own business, i.e. fixing the roads.

I want a couple machine guns, grenade launchers, a tank, and a bunch of bayonets and C4.

Do you trust me with those items?

I've believe Switzerland military service is mandatory and when you leave the service you take your weapon with you.

Yes. Do you know how to use them? The market is satisfactory to control those items, that's how they were controlled until 1934.

When I was in high school I bought det cord at the local hardware store to help launch model rockets. I was 15 when I bought it. Dynamite was for sale too, but only to adults.

Switzerland.

They require you keep a select-fire "assault rifle", along with something like 200rds of sealed(and you better have a reason if that seal is ever broken) ammo in your home.

At least as much as i trust the gov't.

And um, cuz....you can already own/use all of those things with the right permits.

Are you aware that- IIRC- the last three murders commited with legally owned machineguns were all commited by cops? And since 1936 when they were regulated, there have been about 8 murders in the whole US with legally owned fully auto weapons?

Machine guns are no threat to anyone. they're mere inanimate objects.

They're also mechanisms for turning money into noise.

My personal choice for "unusual" weapons ownership would be a 105mm towed howitzer. The ammo purchasing would be the main drawback, after the purchase price.

I want an F16. But where to park it? Airport parking is so expensive these days.

PAt, do you think the right to bear arms is absolutely limitless? As in: I could wear a vest of C4 and carry a shotgun to my divorce procedings? That limitless?

Wouldn't a reloader cut down the expense from the cost of factory loads?

Not European, but doesn't Israel do it?

Didn't Kennesaw, GA (outside Atl) do this (mandatory gun ownership)? I had a manager who liver there. IIRC, they had crime problems that went away after implementation

My right, and yours, ends when it tramples on someone else's right. For example, you don't have the right to wear a vest of C4 and carry a shotgun into my home unless I say it's Okay. Likewise, the lawyer's office would need to grant permission for you to do that.

Even wearing a pistol, assuming you have a carry permit, into the lawyer's office would violate property rights if you did that and knew that they did not authorize anyone to do that.

As far as weapons ownership is concerned, the right is limitless. Weapons that you might own are well controlled by the marketplace.

I can't afford a $5000.00 shotgun, much less actual ownership and practice with a howitzer or even a .50 cal M2. There are those that own those things, most of them don't own a Porsche.

I agree on the private property stuff, but what about on public property like a courtroom?

I know a guy whose Dad owns a real Russian MIG. I've seen it at his airpark house 1/2 between LA and Vegas. The CHP closes down the I-15 freeway for him once in a while and he takes off and lands on the freeway.
