Grill Sociology

I'll bet a buck that plug-in grills have been among the absolute best selling products in America. I've noticed the ads for years and I'ld bet that a peek into the sales of these devices would reveal a sharp and ongoing rise in popularity. Do you guys know why? It's because there are more and more families in America that lack access to a cooking device that rests on the FLOOR.

Now, some folks will think it's sad and maybe a little frightening in an economic sense that this trend is in play.

Others will think everything is obviously rosy because these people live in a land so wonderful that these alternative food preparation strategies are available. These folks will point at the other group and call them critics and pessimists. But in my view, what they fail to see is that while these families are a good market for George Foreman Grills, they probably don't buy tires, ever.

Interesting it is, I think, that the markets for George Forman Grills is brisk, and so is the market for Mercedes Benz SUV's.

None of my cooking devices rest on the floor. And, my George Foreman grill gets used more than any of them!

I would be ashamed to admit that my dog could not cook in a public forum Now go give him a treat...

+2 Is this a model home? Is that dog real? Does a family live there?

Actually, I saw a house very much like that once in upper San Diego County. Guy flew on business a lot, had a new wife but no family living there with him.

This sort of looks like my sister's new 100K kitchen. But she has no kids at home either.

supe, i don't get your point. i must be missing something.

Fresh flowers on the counter, 20+ bottles of infused olive oil and a pitcher of fresh lemonade...I'm thinking advertisement or model home.

We have a small kitchen. We cook 5-7 meals a week. I had a George Foreman Grill in college, but sold it when I had a real oven/stove to cook with.

I have a cast iron frying pan that I do most of my cooking with--when I'm not using my BBQ pit. Speaking of which, I'm smoking a whole turkey on saturday. It will take 6-8 hours.

My meals this week:

Monday: Black Bean Chili (from scratch)
Tuesday: Taco Soup (from scratch)
Wednesday: Naked Chicken Parmesan (my own invention--from scratch)
Tonight: Leftovers

Even the Hulkster has jumped on board.

Turn down your speakers.

When I want to grill I go outside and grill. We have a little one to make grilled cheese sandwiches and thats about it.

Steve, this is just another one of those instances where was innocently trying to be helpful by pointing out that the proportion of people living in poverty in Amerika is on the rise, evidenced by soaring hotplate sales. Here, they just chuckled at me. Sometimes it starts a fight. Of course, I would never post a notion with the deliberate intention of starting a political or socio-economic argument around an important public policy matter. Why......that would only serve to place information repeatedly in front of folks who may perhaps need to introduce more flexibility and analysis in their thinking. I would never do that.

Have you ever actually used one of these grills or listened to the commercials?

They make you healthy!! Don't you know that? George Forman himself says so. He says his magic grills force all the bad fats out of the hamburgers by pressing it out.

I don't think your observation holds any merritt. Where do I see GF Grills for sale? JC Penneys, Macy's Sears and on Cable TV on the QVC Channel.

Not exactly hot spots for your less fortunate.

Maybe where you live every other car is a Mercedes SUV but where I live in Florida there are more 10 year old domestics and Japanese cars than German cars.

Same goes for where my house is in North Carolina except there its more pickup trucks.

Do I disagree that the poverty level on this country is on the rise? Nope, I agree, and wait another 5 years these are good times right now as the final nail is being driven into the coffin.

They don't call 'em "George Foreman Grills" @ Williams-Sonoma:

And where I live in FLA, every third car is a Mercedes SUV, 2nd is a Porsche Cayanne & 1st is a rusted Toyota Camry!
