Low cost wine custom wine rack
From Winepress forums, a method of constructing a low cost wine rack that has potential if developed further, I think. It's made from 4 inch square rebar mesh, that appears to have been painted or coated. The woodwork is crude, but with a little better polish on the trim and a more stylish molding, it should look pretty good. The one in the photo holds 230 bottles.

Here's an even more low-tech solution for a custom wine rack: drain tiles.

I've heard of doing that, but never seen one that tall. I think there is a weight issue, substantial support required for that height, but the wine would see very little temperature variation throughout the day, I'd guess.
I'm going to build one in my unfinished basement, if I can find out the temperature variation down there. Probably borrow one of our outside temperature remotes and put it in the basement. |
Damn, fastpat, thats a handy post.
The drainage tiles look cool, but out here in earthquake land, I can imagine some back outcomes unless the were really well supported and secured. |
I like the drain tiles, too. There's an old Tuscan look to it, something about stone and wood, maybe. Nice.

It all depends if you want just functionality or good looks too. The north wall of my crawl space is my area but it is just functional. I insulate it in the summer & take off the insulation in the winter - to moderate the temps.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1165801522.jpg I have 2 of these cheap racks. Here is a Cdn link but I'm sure they are available in the US. Sauternes 1/2 bottles fall through though. 72 Bottle Wine Rack $49.99 Ian |
