bluetooth car head unit/cd players-anyone bought one/used one?

over here its getting pretty hot for being on your phone whilst driving and ive been nicked once already so im looking at getting a new cd player for my truck that has a bluetooth connection and an external mic that you position above/in front of you. the head unit mutes the music when a call comes in and broadcasts the callers voice through the car/truck speakers. ive tried the clip on rechargable things but they are crap. ive tried the permanently installed systems but they go out of date like a box of strawberries in the heat. i WILL NEVER wear one of those Dr Spock affairs that hang round your ear. in my eyes even if they work brilliantly they are still rubbish simply because you look like a twat. sorry to all those reading this who have one! (its just my view!)

so has anyone tried one of these?

heres a link to a cheap no name item that i found on ebay

I think if you need a head unit this is a fine way to go. I would recommend buying an actual brand name but thats just me.

If you dont need the new head unit just get a bluetooth car kit and it will do everything that you describe.

New BT car kits will be coming soon that will have the ability to play music through bluetooth. I am personally waiting for this as I have a music phone that I currently hook into my stereo by bluetooth. For this feature you would need a phone with A2DP.

I have maybe a dozen headsets, a bluetooth GPS, the bluetooth gateway for my stereo and a set of stero headsphones. Its cool stuff.

I love how he says those headsets you wear on your ear make you look like a twat! CLASSIC!

I have one of those, but I don't use it much, and I don't walk around with it on my ear when I'm not using it. I don't want to look like a twat, but it does work pretty well... since my phone is a PDA phone, and is kinda bulky and awkward to hold up to my ear... and I don't like the face-smudge on the screen... a BT headset is the way to go.

Now, I'd LOVE a head unit for the car that does everything I want AND has a BT option for phone calls.

Remember that no unit is really safe while operating a car. You are still not concentrating on the road fully.

With that in mind - here are a few good units

Dave L, thanks for your help. i don't get what the benefits of this BT thing is over a head unit that supports A2DP. can you explain a little bit? Matt, glad you like my sense of humour! heres a picture of a pair of typical 'twats' !

A2DP allows you to play music that is on your phone onto your car stereo. But it sounds like you arent that much of a geek :)

I get you now Dave. Actually I do fancy the A2DP feature as I have a sony eriiiccssonnnn K800i which i think has that feature. so yes, im well into that level of geekness!
