My boss just gave me my package. He read the script, then followed it with "do what is best for your and your family". He's a great guy and I've enjoyed working for him and I can imagine that this process isn't very pleasant for him, either.

If I don't take the voluntary package, there could be an involuntary package at a later date or no package at all. I have 45 days from today to make my decision. If I take the voluntary package, my last day at Ford would be 2/28/07.

I think I'm going to go home and have a drink... then start working on my career plans.

Art,

We'd love to have you down here in Atlanta. This place could use a few more Yankees! :D

Anywhoot...take a look at ComputerJobs. There are always loads of openings in the Atlanta area.

If I can answer any questions about the area, please lemme know. I've been here for 5 years now, so I may be able to answer...or at least find the answer for you.

I've been around corporate America a long time and I'm here to tell you that if this is what they are telling you, it is a big fat lie.

No one is going to offer as much as a pat on the back on the way out if that happens. You'll be lucky to get a free drink from the water fountain on the way out.

Ford has made it very clear that this severance package is the "best" one that will be offered and that if the required cuts aren't obtained using the "voluntary" buyouts, then the next "buyouts" will be "involuntary" and aren't guaranteed at all. They are really encouraging everyone to take this package and I'm strongly leaning in that direction. I have until after the holidays to make my decision, but unless I'm struck by a bolt of lightning or something like that, I'll be taking the buyout and my last day at Ford will be 2/28/07. I need to start planning now so I have a smooth transition...

If you're serious about considering a move to DC, send me a PM. I work for the Feds and might be able to point you towards some opportunities.
