Sounds like a MUST SEE. Eastwood's "Iwo Jima" wins more critics' awards http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=2006-12-11T150610Z_01_N10473925_RTRUKOC_0_US-CRITICS.xml

I saw the one from the US Perspective, "Flags of our fathers."
An excellent movie, to say the least. I will not see the one from the Japanese perspective. I have no interest in their plight whatever. And if he tries to make them into sympathetic figures(when in reality the Japanese behaved as outright murdering savages during the whole of WWII), i will never see another Eastwood movie again. I fully expect that i just pledged to never see another Eastwood movie again.... Last edited by m21sniper; 12-11-2006 at 08:27 AM.. |

FWIW my wife's grandfather, a bright, promising young man with good connections and an officer rank going into WW2, was captured by the Russians his first day out and spent the war in a POW camp in Siberia. Came back the brokenest, bitterest SOB anyone had ever met--eventually left his wife, shacked up with a mistress, drank and gambled continuously, and sponged off his wife's income (she owned and ran an inn until we rebuilt it a few years ago) until he croaked. At times the Yakuza would come around and demand that Grandma pay for his debts!
