HDTV on your laptop...

Has anyone tried this?

The latest Popular Science magazine had a short article about how a person can receive HDTV if their laptop's screen has high enough resolution. If a person gets HDTV in their zip code, all they need is an receiver like this (there's another for Macs ) and there you have it.

Does this sound too easy?

Sounds reasonable. Many areas have HD over the air broadcast and most laptops support HD resolution. I can't see any great advantage of it for such a small screen.

I have a HDTV tuner in my desktop. I use it to run HDTV to a front projector. I just use it for over the air broadcast. I don't see a big advantage for a laptop but it sure looks good on a 96" wide screen.

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering if this was worth it or not.

I picked up the Pinnacle HD unit but have not opened it yet.

Getting a copy of Elgatos SW so I can run it on my Mac.

I'll let you know how well it works.

I believe it max's out at the lowest of the HD standards (480i/p)

If anyone has an idea for an full HD windows media center type of box please post. I want some 720p/1080p time shifting. . . .and all that other stuff too (music, internet...)

I've had my EyeTV 500 for about two years and it's fantastic.
I watch over-the-air (ATSC) HD on my 15" MacBook Pro or my 23" cinema display.

This picture doesn't show the quality of ATSC at all - it's beautiful.

EyeTV is tightly integrated with Toast 7 Titanium for Mac.
If you have Toast, you can set up EyeTV to record programs then automatically burn it to a DVD using Toast.

I also have an EyeTV 200 (standard definition) that I use watch/record programs from my DirecTV.
My heavily upgraded TiVo is gathering dust since I've bought my EyeTV products.
