Translation Fun - Books into other Languages

Translation Fun
Posted by Thomas Woods

My book How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization has just appeared in Polish and German translations (the latter under the title Sternstunden statt dunkles Mittelalter: Die katholische Kirche und der Aufbau der abendlandischen Zivilisation).

As of now I have six more book translations coming, including Chinese and Romanian translations of The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History. Quite an interesting experience, this.

The Real Lincoln has been translated into Korean by a South Korean publisher. The South Koreans obviously do not want the North Korean communists to "save" their union like the Lincoln regime did ours. They think secession is fine and dandy, thank you, which is why they are reading my book.

On the other hand, I'm told that books on the topic by Harry ("secession is not legitimate under any circumstances") Jaffa, James McPherson, Alan Guelzo, Gabor Boritt, Harold Holzer, and Eric Foner are very popular in North Korea.

" The South Koreans obviously do not want the North Korean communists to "save" their union like the Lincoln regime did ours. They think secession is fine and dandy, thank you, which is why they are reading my book."

That is an unfortunate quote. It makes the author sound like he hasn't the foggiest idea how Korea got to be the way it is today.

If South Korea wasn't created by Koreans that refused to be ruled by communists who were going to dominate the Korean Peninsula via force of arms, then how was it created, praytell?

The Confederate States were forced into Union by force of arms, the same thing the communists had in mind for South Korea.

The Korean people had very little to say in the matter. The Japanese had occupied their country for about 60 years. When the Japanese surrendered, the Russians took over the territory to the North, The Americans garrisoned the south to forstall the Russians taking over the whole penninsula.

Now, if you'd like to create a parallel with some country from across the sea forming the Confederacy to stop the Yankee incursion, be my guest.
