I have never experienced this, but wow, sure sounds like it sucks.
"Fact is that all of my dreams are nightmares." now that really sucks. Try to learn how to get into and control your dreams. You won't believe how fun dreams are once you are able. The easiest technique is to think of your dominate hand while you are going to sleep. If you are right handed, keep thinking, "I am going to look at my right hand when I am dreaming". Keep doing this over and over till you fall asleep. It may take some time (days/weeks) till you are finally able to "look at your right hand" in a dream, but when you do, you will kind of tingle all over and you will be in control. I know this may sound like b.s. and a whack job, but if you can get to this level, you will never have a nightmare and you will look forward to sleeping. Sweet dreams, |
My wife experiences it every once in a while.

I wish I had less control of dreams, hearing sounds of Flat 6's and V12's scouring around the 'Ring in the '60s isn't condusive to sleep. :D

I had this happen once a long time ago but its never happened since and I thought something really bad was happening to me sort of like what Mike said. I get some sort of attack in the middle of the night where I wake up gasping for air and have to ge tou tof bed and walk around feeling like I am going to pass out and I cannot catch my breath. I do not have sleep apnia (sp?) that I know of and do not snore unless I have a head cold. Its a freaky feeling and I am pretty sure its stress related. |

I"ve had it happen a few times but always there is an "intruder" in the room hovering over me. I cannot do a thing and am petrified. Luckily happens very rarely.

I worked with a woman who had what she called "night terrors" on a regular basis. She would start screaming and wailing on her husband in the middle of the night. She said in her dreams he or others were trying to kill her. I don't know that I would stick around after one or two of those!

I have sleep paralysis fairly frequently...usually when I'm overtired or sleep-deprived. Usually accompanied by a terrifying feeling that there's someone in the house (who shouldn't be there). Only thing I've found I'm able to control right away is my breathing...which means I usually end up panting. Occasionally that wakes up my wife, and then she gives me a shake and I can move again. Something about the external stimulus jerks me right out of it.

Hmm... Makes you wonder what it would be like to be eaten alive by a spider after it paralyzes you...
D'oh! Just what I need, nightmare material! |
