Computer Guys - The Red "X"
 
Sometimes I don't see the image. Instead, there is a little box with a red "X" in it. What's up with that?

The img link is down or broken when you see an X.

Either that, or someone buried a vast treasure in your monitor! ;)

Context? In your browser, that means the image couldn't be fetched for some reason. In some email clients, (outllook, gmail) it means you need to turn on image downloading for that message or sender.

In what program?

In outlook, IIRC, you right-click on the image to d/l it.
