Internet Explorer 7 problem?
 

I installed it on my mom's computer yesterday in an effort to get her computer up to date and eliminate the prompts she gets for updates. Then I was unable to download some files she needed from a business vendor. When I clicked to download on one link of their website, a different link would come up instead. After calling tech support, they said the problem is with IE 7's new scripting and lots of websites were having problems interacting with it. So, to solve this problem I have to uninstall IE 7 and reinstall IE 6.

Anyone else encountered this kind of trouble?

downloaded it this week and have had no problems.

One word answer: Firefox.

Some things about 7.0 I don't like but no problems....

I would try to uninstall then reinstall!

My three kids on Windoz all use FireFox (Mozilla) for good reason. They and their generation know better than adults not to use IE.

Firefox is the old Mozilla, which is the old Netscape, iirc.

I never liked netscape! So far I'm liking the new IE 07 version! Like the tabs across the top to keep windows open!

I switched over to Firefox 3 months ago and have been kicking myself ever since. Reason for kicking myself is that I should have made the switch away from frigging IE YEARS AGO!

Firefox is much better and hackers do not target it. Try it!

ANYTHING Microsoft is fair game for hackers and they probe and look for openings in code or back doors that you can find in any software. So many people hate MS that bad that they go after any MS product.

Firefox is not anything like the old Netscape and is so much more user friendly that I really hate to use a machine these days that has only IE on it.

Besides, Firefox is free and you are paying for a slow, buggey program like IE. No contest for me.

Ive been running IE 7 for about 2 months... there have been some little problems, but nothing too major...

Some websites do not display properly... and I had to have one of my own tech guys do a quick fix for one of our customer's sites that we created.... nothing major, but IE7 wasnt displaying the text as previous browsers had.

one other odd thing is that the GUI sometimes comes out splayed and looking crossed up with whatever program is running...for example Media Player will be open and then I will open IE7 and parts of MP will be showing on IE7 GUI...weird stuff.

IE suffers from a multitude of security flaws, which coupled with how tightly it's integrated into the OS, makes for a double-whammy when someone finds a new hole.

IE refuses to comply fully with W3 standards, so web developers have to code to IE's rendering engine, since they have such a huge market share by default (almost every PC built gets windoze, which in turn automatically has IE)

FireFox is developed under a completely different mindset, and this doesn't suffer from having holes poked in it in order to support the OS.

There are zillions of cool add-ons for FireFox. My faves are the flash and javascript blockers, and AdBlockPlus.

I use Firefox 95% of the time too, and prefer it to IE. But it doesn't run all websites well, or at all for me on business sites. A lot of websites don't bother to proof their sites for Firefox, as it's a very small percentage of the browsers that hit them. When you hit what seems like a glitch, try switching it IE and you'll see the difference. My understanding was MS corrected a lot of the security and spyware problems Firefox avoided when it first made its big splash.

Lots of ways, but one example and one of the worst, imo, are "browser helper objects". Anything but helpful, usually undesirable, but always a vulnerability. Google "bho+malware" and "bho+spyware" for more info.

Ie has zones - something I wish Firefox had, but the default settings for the zones are "let the web site do anything it wants". The only safe approach to web use is "dangerous until proven safe". It tales a lot of work to secure ie to any reasonable extent, but you can't close all the holes. Firefox is better out-of-the-box, but it, like all internet-accessing software, needs some caution when installing. I do not install anything with a live internet connection and each install gets at least two system boots and thorough spyware scans before reconnecting the network cable. Also, for Firefox, I delete all .dll files in the plugin directories before allowing web access.

There's a lot of money to be made by spying on your internet activities, and ie plus outlook outlook express are just plain dangerous, imo.

Anyway, that's a long - and much simplified - answer so I'll quit. The stuff above may seem like a pita, but I configure my systems according to *my* rules, not ms's and my systems are all rock stable. Getting behind the power curve here.

I have been using IE 7 on a machine running Vista Beta since June and have had no problems.

Over the years I have used all the browsers and can't say that I've had any real problems with any of them.

Other than obvious hardware failures, most of the time when someone is having problems with their machine, it is usually the interface between the chair and the keyboard.

Some people like to install every piece of ***** software they come across, or hit the p0rn sites, shopping sites, crappy music sites/software etc. excessively and then can't understand why there machine is slow or acting wierd.

Easy enough to just blame M$.

Personally, I think it's all Bush's fault as a result of what he inherited from Clinton.
