On the Corvette. "It's like herpes. Might be a lot of fun trying to catch it but, not fun to live with every day."
Vintage Clarkson. |
My fav; "Big red V10 axe murderer", refering to the Viper.
|
Glad you guys enjoy/appreciate his sense of humor.
|
I love the guy's sense of humor (and I'm an American and love Porsches too). I personally think he's pretty funny.
|
Hilarious! And just a bit too accurate.
My favorite- "American cars are made from melted down action figures." I want a Ford GT! |
I like Clarkson. He gives us Yanks *****, but he is not afraid to admit to enjoying American autos.

I love pretty much everything Clarkson makes, including the latest video, but I have to take issue with a few minor points:
1) The whole point of the video seems to be to discredit and mock the United States. I don't disagree with any of his points per se, but I have to question his motivation. 2) Every test is constructed to tip the scales in favor of Europe. The SUV test: wouldn't a Jeep be a better choice than an Escalade? 3) Even though it is made for the US market, isn't a Prius a Japanese car? I do realize that Clarkson is attempting to attack an American trend here, but come on, have some consistancy. 4) Clarkson loves the Ford GT, but fails to mention that it is perhaps the most unreliable car Ford has made in decades. His own Ford GT has broken down like 10 different times. Other than those gripes, I enjoyed the video. |

I think he did a reasonable job of comparing vehicle to vehicle. The Range Rover is generally equipped as a luxury vehicle and I think that is what he was looking at comparing it to the Hummer and the Escalade. A Jeep would do better off road, but it's probably more comparable to a basic Land Rover Defender. Basically he is right when he says that American vehicles are made for the American market and the manufacturers don't really care about European sales. Look at Harleys for example, here you have long straight roads which are made for cruising at a decent speed for long periods at a time. A Harley makes perfect sense here and a sport bike doesn't - I mean you'd wear a flat down the center of the tire in no time! Those of you that have been to Europe have probably seen that there aren't many roads like that but there are plenty of slower twisty roads, perfect for a sport bike, but bloody awful on a Harley. Horses for courses, so to speak. |
