Great Video. Thanks for posting it.
That guy is a true musician and innovator.

I was expecting to see some Asian kid playing some Paganini with some sweeps or some BS like that...

But this guy is really good, and has some nice musical feel in addition to the innovative technique and percussive elements.

Nice song too. Anyone remember Stanley Jordan?

Its probably an open tuning.. DADGAD or something?

Thats an instructor I know that works at the music store my dad (gtrdon on this board) works at... Kid is so good makes my father want to burn his guitar... Has toured Asian the past 3 - 4years and is getting picked up by Universal Record due to the youtube fiasco... Great down to earth guy and never forgets his roots. Andy Mckee, I bow before you!

Thanks for the knowledge. The more I think about this technique, its certainly possible to learn...however you would need a very well set up guitar + the big challenge of muting strings properly so that there wouldnt be unnecessry sounds, ringing strings etc.

If you guys like this kind of stuff you should check out Michael Hedges...who unfortunately died some years ago.

I'm not really into the 'tapping technique' per se, but while sitting front row at a Stanley Jordan show many years ago, I found myself picking my jaw up off the floor on numerous occasions...he did an awesome version of Stairway to Heaven as I recall.

I love playing my Stanley Jordan CD for my guitar playing friends... and then announce that they were listening to one guitar player.

I had or have a tape of him (I think it was off PBS) and he was mind blowing. Do you know what happened to him?

They called him the guitarist from outer space. Just awesome to watch his technique - often the two handed hammerdown melodies, cool tunings, and fast on an acoustic. There was also the Aolean (sp?) harp he had grafted to one of the guitars. About 4 albums before he left us (+ a vocal and compilation). 2nd was best known - Aerial Boundries.

Its tuned to an open chord. I thought it was an open G, but Google tells me its D A D G A D, like Sonic said.
