What do Swedes do for new year?

I need to know because I an often misidentified as being a Swede (blond, blue eyed, pinkish skin) I have some Danish blood (but I don't feel like a pastry) and English (have no desire to hail the queen) but as far as I know that's it.

Yup, same procedure every year. Starting out every new year with an adequate hangover. A wholesome tradition. Then you know the rest of the year can only get better.

Lutefisk is Norwegian. I believe you would be insulting Livi by suggesting that this abortion of a dish is Swedish. But I could be wrong.

There's a lutefisk pie story that goes like this....

...no, on second thought, it would be inappropriate...

My grandfather was Norwegian (or as he referred to himself a "squarehead") and always threatened to make me eat Lutefisk at Christmas. And laughed. Evil laughter.

Nasty stuff I guess, like baccala?

I think lutfisk is a Scandinavian tradition from back in the poor, dark ages when tasty food was hard to come by. At least it has been on the Swedish Christmas table for ages. Incredibly enough, as it tastes awful. Been banned at my home for the last 10 years.

Then there is the 'surströmming' of course. Opening a can outdoors less than a hundred yards away will unavoidably make me throw up just from the stench. And people eat it.

What is the reason for the myth of the Swedish woman ? I can not see how they differ from any other countries. Unless you are really into long blond hair, even longer slender legs and a very open and willing attitude..

hrm..but, but back to the story about the original, non molested 911 R in my grandpa´s barn..

I wish you the same, mate!

I am thinking I could send you a package with surströmming. No matter how long a distance - it couldn´t taste worse as it is already rotting.

Nice one - how do they set the "use by" date on that stuff anyhow?

No need. When the whole can explodes from built up pressure of fermentation - you know you should have eaten it at least yesterday.

New years eve has become over hyped over here (Not so Great Britian) every pub wants to charge an arm and a leg just to get through the doors and every taxi driver seems to triple his rate. I will probably get legless around at a friends house and then stroll back home like this.....
