Best music download sites

Anyone care to share links to their favorite music download sites?

Best free site and best pay site

I have not downloaded music since Napster came under fire.

My old computer with thousands of songs, comedy, etc. from Napster went to Goodwill without my knowledge during a home cleaning spree. About the only music I don't care for is some of the newer stuff.. For instance I prefer XM Café (45) and do not care for Fred (44).

Thanks

In this case I guess "newer" is relative.

I use Allofmp3, a russian site for music downloads. It is a pay site, but the price is really cheap.

I have also started listening to Pandora, an internet radio station that is interactive, and plays music that you like.

torrentspy.com - you need a bittorrent client and it's a bit of a PITA to set up, but once you do, there's an amazing quantities of music and movies available. They have loads of clients and tutorials available on that site, as well as a torrent search engine. Not that I'd know anything about it...

Are there any catches with this? is the quality the same as what you would get off of Itunes? It seems very very cheap

The only catch is some Russian guys get your credit card info. But I use a debit card with a low limit and have had no problems in over a year of use.

The quality is fine...you can select higher datarate mp3 files, but they cost a little more. The way I see it, I'm just paying the Russian price. Gotta love the global economy.

They don’t have every new song that is popular in the US, but I'm kind of behind the times, anyway.

As I understand it, Russian royalties are significantly lower than those in the US, so what they're doing is absolutely legal. They collect and submit royalties through the Russian equivalent of ASCAP or BMI, just like they should. The artists do in the end get paid, just way less than they would have if the music had been purchased in the US.

I've been using it for some 6 months or so, with no problems.

Can't download, but has a playlist. Not sure how much music is available, nor genres.
