So what's this "brah" thing all about?

Being over 30, I know I'm hopelessly unaware of the latest hip-hop-pop-culture stuff, but I was watching Southpark a couple nights ago. Good harmless fun, though it does make me start talking like Cartman at work.

Anyway, in this episode, Cartman became a school hall monitor and dressed up as a bounty hunter or Hell's Angel or something. He started calling everyone "Brah."

Since that Southpark episode, I've seen "Brah" twice, one on the Google, and one on Rennlist. What's that all about?

:D

I didn't see the South Park episode, but it's probably a parady of Dog the Bounty Hunter who lives and works in Hawaii where "brah" is equiv. to "bro." The island natives will have more to say about "brah" I'm sure.

Yup. Cartman was a parody of "Dog".
Excellent episode I might add.

I visit Hawaii a lot and was familiar with their slang "brah" but when I did a job in Boston the crew were calling each other "brah"

now what's up wit dat?

MotoSook 01-04-2007 03:51 PM

We sometimes use the term in the Midwest too! It depends on the group/circle you're in at the time.

Owen Wilson made an observation a couple years ago after shooting a crap movie over there, namely that you don't see a lot of libraries and museums in Hawaii.

trekkor 01-04-2007 07:47 PM

"brah" is a very old slang for bro, brother or "brahdah".

I heard it back in the 70's.
