Forget Politics for a Sec: Let's Fly!

Got a chance to do some of the maneuvers shown in the video when I flew with the Brits many years ago in a Lynx.

Both the Lynx and the helo in the video have a, "rigid rotor system" that allows acro.

Airshow

How much, if any, negative collective range does that aircraft have? The maneuverability reminds me of the original Blackhawk, the S-67 from 1970.

Not sure.

When I was the Chief Government Test Pilot at the Sikorsky factory in Bridgeport, CT, my Sikorsky counterpart was a guy named John Dixon. John was the original test pilot on the S-67.

What a pilot...flying with him was simply an incredible experience. He has since retired.

SH,

If you are anywhere in this area in March (and I am here as well) will introduce you to Sergi Sikorsky. He lives in this area and we see him at the QB meetings as well as the local fly-in's here in AZ. Still flying and hell of a guy.

I understand that the "negative collective" was locked out on the S-67 for anyone but a couple of pilot's, Dixon must have been one of them.

There's a factory film of the S-67 floating around somewhere, I saw it while in a school at Fort Eustis. I'd love to get it posted to youtube.

About 1990. we had just done a neo-transfer..on the way back we took a lightning strike in the main blades..exit tail rotor.
The Hawk has multiple back-up systems...fried,was interesting going in,
up to the windows in snow (lucky) crew-chief exits..does snowangel..whips his privates out , and pisses into the air and on self.
Wife how was your day ? fine, we did a transfer..sorry I'm late.

wow

them's some funky moves for a chopper
i wonder how they come up with the idea to give those a try, it's not like there's an eject seat like on a jet in case it goes wrong
and it looks terribly unstable from whatever angle you look at it

i've been up in a Pitss Special with an acro pilot, but i'm not sure if i'de wanna go up for a ride like this... just doesn't look like fun to me..

There is a "flyover" planned for the start of the Seahawks v. Cowboys game tomorrow. They'll be flying Chinooks. You'd think they'd at least fly Seahawks, right?

same like driving, you don't get motion sick if you are in control
and it's pretty inpossible to do those maneuvres if you don't have very good situational awareness, which is the exact thing that prevents you from getting motion sick...

*i think*

Yep, being on the controls reduces motion sickness, A-6 pilots, and bombadiers, can vouch for the difference, particularly in side by side seating which puts you off the roll axis, making it much worse.

Amazing! His wife sends him on an errand, he tapes the grocery list to the dash, does a few maneuvers and forgets to pick up the milk?

lol..it's true. back when i was flight instructor before my learjet gigs, i went up with a veteran airshow pilot up in springdale arkansas, who among other things does shows with an old 20-series lear..i can't draw his name..been too many years. anyway..we went up together in a pitts and i actually made the guy queasy by accidentally putting us into an inverted spin when i tried tied to recover to forcefully from a basic spin. we were both a little green upon landing and he had to take a break from taking our small group of neophyte instructor/aerobatic pilot wannabees up in his plane. woo hoo! i'll bet some of you knwo the guy..he flew a big 'ol radial, single-engined monster her knicknamed 'samson' or is it 'sampson'?? damn i'm bad with names..
