oldest new parent and biggest spread

Met a guy here in Hawaii...my son befriended his son, and ended up going out to dinner for his 12th birthday. Was talking with the dad and he said he has a 31 year old son as well...that his 12 year old was a "surprise" and he was 48 when he was born.

So who here is another "old" dad or has a big spread between kids? My brother is 13 years older than I am. At 45, if I were to do the kid thing again I'd end up being about 47-48, and would have about a 13 year spread with my son.

i'm 13 years older than my brother..practically raised him myself as dad was gone (alive, but absent by virtue of 'alcohol') by the time he was old enough to get the concept of 'dad'. i'll be 41 in 2 weeks, so i'd more than likely be an 'old dad' were i to ever have kids, which at present seems rather remote.

Man, you are ancient! Do you really still have sex at your age?

I was 34 when my son was born, 43 when my youngest daughter was born. I'm a different parent entirely. I don't sweat the small stuff like I used to. I don't "over parent" like I did with my first child.

I'm also a much less physical dad. I have accumulated a few injuries over the years, so I'm not as likely to play soccer in the yard or wrestle on the floor for hours. I still work long days and I don't have even half the energy for parenting that I had years ago. Still, I'm glad we decided to have another baby and I can't imagine our lives without her.

I seem to recalled that Anthony Quinn was siring youngsters well into his eighties.

Or, as Groucho Marx once put it: "You're only as old as the woman you feel."

I'm exactly the same as Moses here. I'm 48 now.....It's not easy keeping up with a 5y/o at 48 either. They keep trying to get me on the trampoline,I did ONCE and still suffering back spasims from that deal.

(I can't see going to my kid's HS graduation when I'm 62, that's not my idea of fun).

I just hit 50...and I have 14 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. I got started late and was fortunate enough to marry someone 9 years younger than I.

I honestly think I was very near the outside of the envelope for being a sentient parent.

My daughter is 13 years younger than my son. I was able to joke that my son was learning to drive and my daughter learning to walk at the same time. :>)

I am 15 years older than my baby brother. There is one 5 years younger than me too in the middle. So the spread would be 10 years from the middle brother to the youngest.

My sons are 10 years apart. It was not planned that way, but, after a miscarraige many years ago we seemed to not be able to have kids after that. Then we were suprised by our last one. I was 37 when he was born.

I went to HS with a girl that had brothers and sisters (15 of them) ranging in age from 24 to 2.

My Dad was 50 years 9 months (Hmm wonder what he got for his bitrhday?) when I was born. Mom was already a grandmother.
My oldest brother is 23 years, 7 months older than I.
There were 2 sets of twins, born 11 months apart.
My father is a 7 th child, I am a 7th son. (Youngest of 10)
Full family reunions were infrequent, but fun.
