ipod with bluetooth capability........

I was about to buy a 30gb ipod when i spotted this. both my cars have a bluetooth connection and love the idea of a wireless connection between my cars and an ipod. does anyone have any more news on this? sounds like a very good idea to me

Are you talking about the future possibility of an IPOD w/ built in Bluetooth or the current add-on accessories? Cause the article refers to both.

It would be cool to be able to have your Ipod in your pocket, or purse and then just connect to your car stereo via Bluetooth. It would also solve problems with difficult installs. This way you could just mount the IPOD in the most ideal location, not run wires, and still connect to the stereo.

In the ideal Bluetooth world, could you imagine how easy it would be to have a 2nd gen IPOD Shuffle, stick it on your steering wheel and have it automatically connect to your stereo without wiring. That would be too easy.

boxer, Im talking about the possibility of inbuilt bluetooth capability. I have seen the add on bluetooth things but they need charging seperately from the ipod. Ive also seen the fm transmitters (they dont need to be charged-they get their power from the ipod) but the quality of the transmission is poor. the idea of a built in bluetooth connection in a standard ipod sounds great to me

This is the best I could find:

Most (all?) Bluetooth functionality in cars these days only supports cellphone headset functionality (mono audio) and is really not suited for stereo quality audio. I've seen a few aftermarket kits that support stereo protocols but then you've got to find something that will stream audio to it (iPod attachment?).

Bluetooth actually is an umbrella marketing/branding name for a broad range of "profiles" (functionalites) that most devices only support a subset of. Be careful when you buy Bluetooth devices, if they don't both support the same profiles they won't work together.

Geez, this is so 2 years ago. My Lifedrive has been doing this since 2005!

Ipod: Doing the same thing for more money and later to the game. Apple has the best marketing.

The reason that they succed even after being late and charging more is because they do it better.
