Dunno the answer for you after549. Seeing the transition of a few drivers from various circuits to NASCAR has been, I dunno, funny. Seeing the IROC races makes me laugh too. All the talent in the world those drivers (other than N-car regulars) have, but yet, you rarely see them win. For crying out loud, turn left!

OK just saw the snooze...Toyota is in nascar ! I dont give a rip - but is funny to hear the fans put Toy dwn as un american and to be competing against Detroit iron.!!! OMG !
I am more convinced then ever that lots and lots of nascar fans think they are seeing something close to what they can buy out there on the track......thats my red neck story and am sticking to it (spit) LOL |
NASCAR is a corporate/marketing machine. It's about product placement not racing. It stopped being about racing when CBS took over coverage in the '80's and put cameras everywhere on and in the cars. It's not about the cars, its about the drivers and the drivers sell the product. The France family took it to the bank. The typical NASCAR fan doesn't even know there are other forms of racing. I have a friend that has a motor home and sends 3 days at a track for a race. Yet he won't go to Sebring and has no idea of what sports car racing is about. He's brainwashed and he is a pretty smart guy. When he buys a case of Bud, he's supporting his boy Dale Jr. Simple on some level.

Nascar is contrived, dumbed down and boring. I have no doubt i will attend a race with my son when he is a bit older though, as he LOVES race cars of any type. It will be balanced with a road racing event as well though!
F1 is amazing to watch but.....can be boring as well. I think a lot of it has to do with the quality of coverage. If the race comes down to pit times and failure to make a mistake I get bored real fast. Give me some pavement/dirt rally footage and i am a happy camper! I also really enjoy the city tracks vs. dedicated race venues. Real cars, real situations, that is fun stuff! The more cookie cutter and staged it gets (Nascar being tops on this, F1 following dangerously close) the less interested i am in it. I'd watch major autocross coverage over an F1 race just about any day. Just let me hear some SOUND dammit! Announcers need to shut their pieholes and let me hear the car! |
yup..burp/fart

Everyone knows that NASCAR cars are built by each team by hand. |
I find NASCAR insulting. I cannot believe anyone watches it and feels like it is not a joke.
As said before, I tried to watch the last race of the season to see how JPM did and I could not understand why Yellow flags were being waved and pace cars being deployed for a blown out tire on a car that was already in the pits. I cannot understand how anyone can watch that and feel like its really racing. |
legion, you should have watched the news..these folks were up ! were incinerated that Toy would infringe on American cars!
|
Yea; last year they might have cheered Daryrle Waltrip, this year they might hate him, only because he drives them "forn carz".. I could give a rats a## for NASCAR. I just like racing for the quality of the cars and the quality of the drivers. Vintage Racing is the best of both worlds. If you have not been to a vintage event, please go and have fun.
