So I got a new PS3

Not really a gamer, but got this so my 16 year old son and I can spend time together. He really digs gaming, so we can hoot it up a bit. I went for the deluxe version with the 60GB hard drive. Got a copy of Need for Speed Carbon. Anyone else there have any recommendations for games? I'd like Gran Turismo HD also, but its not shipping yet. I hear there is a Formula 1 title in the works, also.

Nope, I'm into the BluRay thing. Gonna switch my Netflix prefs over to BluRay and get a 1080p 47" LCD.

So the PS3 is a BluRay player too? Isn't a stand alone BluRay player more than a PS3?

PS. I've been told that the "fall of man" game is the best out there for PS3 though I'm not a gamer(not enough time), so......

motion, I dont reccommend maden '07 if your son is into it for PS3. I was playing it this weekend and couldnt find enough noticeable differences quality wise to justify the price. NFS was pure sex though.

That's right... the standalone BlueRay players are going for $800 on up, which makes the $599 PS3 a great deal if you want a high def movie player. See? This thing is really easy to justify

Fall of Man looks like an excellent game and is getting really good reviews. I'm really not into the first person shooter thing, though... would really prefer racing or action games that don't involve too much blood & guts. The stick & ball stuff really is not too interesting, either. Keep em coming if you have any more suggestions, please.

Played Guitar Hero over at a buddy's house last weekend. (PS2) I expected it to be lame, but it was really fun. There is a Guitar Hero 2 out, but I am not sure if there is a special version for PS3.

Something about having a killer home theatre system and then pulling out a game controller to get the movie started that just doesn't sound right.

Did you actually find one for $599..if so, please do tell where. My son needs one too

Is there a 'conventional' DVD remote with it or available as an add-on, as with the PS2?

There were systems at Fry's when i was there a couple of weeks ago. I was also in the return line with a dude that was giving his back and saw another walking out with one.

They are also available at Best Buy, supposedly the most difficult thing to sell in the store according to the sales guys, now that the hype and flipping business is pretty much over. Readily available in Japan and Taiwan as well.

Interesting how things have changed price and availability-wise in the last two weeks! Now Amazon.com turns up 30GB units starting at ~$660 and 60GB at ~799. They still appear not to have direct stock though; these are through 3rd party merchants. The Fry's and Best Buys around here are most likely hopelessly backordered, still. I was at Best Buy last week and they had huge "out of stock" signs out front for PS3 and Wii stuff.

The BestBuy here last week had 50 in stock on a Sunday with 8 people in line to buy. I think the eventually sold out, but Target had more of the same. Don't pay anything over retail for these. The Wii, now thats another story.

Seriously guys, get a Xbox360 instead of a PS3. More games, greater functionality and an infinately better online experience.

Do not take my word for it, go check it out yourself.

Madden Football is still my fave game.

About the Xbox360, my nephew has one. It doesn't impress me much.

The only reason I buy any gaming console is for the driving games. The Gran Tourismo wins hands down. I will probably buy a new Xbox one day when the new Halo stuff comes out but until then I am in no hurry.

Same goes for PS3, I do not expect to see any GTHD on the shelves for another year to 18 months so I can wait for the refurbs to show up in the stores.
