So now we're carrying the war to Somalia?

We will follow them evil doers no matter where they try to hide.....

It's the American Way!!

(why such a mission should even make the news and was not a covert operation I will never know)

Don't make fun of that. It's the real reason for the Iraq war - don't you know? (just to be clear, this is sarcasm)

Good to see. No place to hide, these perps were evidently part of Al Qaeda who hit the US Embassys in Africa several years ago. They had been sheltered for years in Somalia and now were on the move after being forced out of their hiding spots there.

No place in the world to run, no place in the world to hide. They want to see allah, we are just helping them along on their journey. You attack the US and eventually you will pay the price.

It's so they (the UN and USG) can force a government on Somalia.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somalia's interim president entered the restive capital Monday for the first time since being selected more than two years ago, joining his administration's struggle to give the country a functioning government it has lacked since 1991.

President Abdullahi Yusuf took office in 2004 as head of a transitional administration formed with U.N. help in hopes of restoring order in a country riven by more than a decade of anarchy, but he had spent much of his time outside Somalia because of insecure conditions.

Anytime where there's no actual air combat or ground to air resistance, they bring in the AC-130. It's pretty pathetic, really. Impressive to watch, though, and makes interesting noises.

Well it works well, doesn't it?

Why bring in expensive jets when Spectre does the job better and cheaper?

Well, you know, it's just an aircraft for chickenhawks and all that, you see. The modern equivalent of using machine guns on the Zulu's.

Also, you might want to review what the AC-130's effectiveness was in Gulf War I, and in the Mayaguez Incident before pronouncing its prowess too highly.

The AC-130 is actually the single most precise weapons system in the USAF, and the most persistant too. The latest, the AC-130U, is lightyears better than the models the US used in Nam.

I think they're fantastic platforms when the environment is permissible, and they are most definitely utterly awe inspiring to see in action.

They're upgrading 'em all now with Mk144 30x173mm guns (to replace all the 40mm and 25mm mounts). That's the same caliber as the gun of the A-10. Very, very powerful round.

Definitely want to keep them away from high threat levels though.

Yes, I like expensive military hardware too, lots of fun.

Still, it's just more machine gunning the natives because they can't stop you. As the British troopers used to say in Africa, "We shall not fear the Hottentot because we have the Maxim gun and they have not".

Pathetic? Well, then how would you comment about the killing of innocent civilians and DOS workers when the US Embassy's were bombed in two African countries a couple of years ago by THESE SAME PEOPLE?

Guess its ok in your feeble mind to place several truck's with bomb's in them and blow the entire area up, along with all the people walking or living in the area, but when the US Govt and Military finds the cowards who did this act and try to elminate them you find it pathetic?

Look in the mirror, and you will see pathetic. The terrorists killed in the above mentioned airstrike received what they deserved, just 2 years late. They should have been killed when testing their bomb making equipment without hurting any innocent people in the process.

Fair fights are for the movies Pat.

If they could "machine gun" us from the heavens, they would too.

Platforms like the AC-130 exist to make sure no American poet ever has to write a poem like that about our boys.

The above provided by the Bush'ist Cult. The KoolAid stand is available on the right, just past the people in the yellow robes. Shown them your stamped palm for free refills.

Do you not realize that both my quote and yours were made by the British merchantilists during their empire days of mass killing every place they went to exploit? It wasn't about trade with these people, it was about going there, killing them, and stealing their stuff.

My point wasn't about fair fights, I'd agree with you if the US military was about defending America, but alas, it is not about defending America at all. If it were, Mexican thugs wouldn't be overrunning National Guardsmen along our borders.

IF they shot up the bombers

IT WAS A GOOD THING

BUT with CIA's record on WMD's
and other airstrikes
on weddings ect

I do WONDER if they are correct
kill them all and let god or alla sort them out
is NOT good international relations
nore policy I want to pay for
and only makes for more bombers
in the long run

Beep,

Actually the AC-130 is a very expensive acft. The numbers a few years back were something along the lines of 16 billion/year.

Look into the actual cost, to include a contracting issue and I believe they are more expensive per acft than a B 2 if we don’t include R&D costs.

Fast movers are cheaper but carry larger bangs and have less persistence in munitions. Smaller explosive/ecrs and more precise weaponeering equels easier ROE and increased air to ground munitions.

Nota,

What airstrike on a wedding?

S/F, FOG
