Olds/GM parts
 

I am going to have to replace the pads and rotors on my 1997 Olds Cutlass, and I was wondering if anyone could refer me to a good, cheap parts distributor. Thanks.

Napa, Carquest, Advance Auto parts have all been pretty good for me.

Autozone is cheapest, but so are the parts. It seems like either the parts were bad or they wore out quicker then parts from the other places I mentioned. YMMV....

Yep, I'm pretty sure the brakes on that car were shared by dozens of GM vehicles. Even Midas would be pretty cheap. (Although they use crappy parts in my opinion.)

Thanks for the replies, guys. I was going to order the parts online, but from what you say it might just be easier to go down to NAPA or AutoZone and pick them up.

Given the market prices on mid 90's US iron,you may want to price complete replacement Cutlasss'(Cutli?) :D

I actually don't even like this car, to tell the truth... the gas mileage is terrible, it's comfortable, but has absolutely NO driving dynamics whatsoever. It is the quintessential bad American car.

I'd much rather sell it and find a late 1980s/early 90s Golf to drive over the winter. But the car was my aunt's, and she sold it to me for a steal, so I would feel bad selling it. I guess I'll keep it until it explodes.

I'm just messing with ya, but I know what you mean. My buddy has a 90's Buick somethingorother that has vevet interior and rides like a couch. It's so comfy that it's stupid. We call it brown velveteen and I must admit it rocks on road trips:D

Yeah, like I said, it's comfy. Nice tan leather, CD, walnut trim dash. You don't even feel bumps... but that's where the compliments end. The steering is beyond vague, it pitches like a Jeep over every turn, the automatic transmission is random and unpredictable. It might be fine for 70 year-olds who have never driven a performance car and only want a huge couch that "rides nice" (thinking of Clarkson's American impression here)... but I'm 26 and want my cars to be enjoyable.

I do have to admit that the Olds is surprisingly good in the snow. It understeers horribly, but punching the throttle gets things back in line. It is a surprisingly easy car to control in inclement weather.

Since I only really drive the car in bad weather (a majority of the winter - except this mild year - and when it rains in the summer), I have thought about installing a rally-style light bar in the front, as a lark. People who know me would think it's funny, but I think most people would look at the car and think I'm some kind of D-bag :)
