Well, you know, it's just an aircraft for chickenhawks and all that, you see. The modern equivalent of using machine guns on the Zulu's.

Also, you might want to review what the AC-130's effectiveness was in Gulf War I, and in the Mayaguez Incident before pronouncing its prowess too highly.

The AC-130 is actually the single most precise weapons system in the USAF, and the most persistant too. The latest, the AC-130U, is lightyears better than the models the US used in Nam.

I think they're fantastic platforms when the environment is permissible, and they are most definitely utterly awe inspiring to see in action.

They're upgrading 'em all now with Mk144 30x173mm guns (to replace all the 40mm and 25mm mounts). That's the same caliber as the gun of the A-10. Very, very powerful round.

Definitely want to keep them away from high threat levels though.

Yes, I like expensive military hardware too, lots of fun.

Still, it's just more machine gunning the natives because they can't stop you. As the British troopers used to say in Africa, "We shall not fear the Hottentot because we have the Maxim gun and they have not".

Pathetic? Well, then how would you comment about the killing of innocent civilians and DOS workers when the US Embassy's were bombed in two African countries a couple of years ago by THESE SAME PEOPLE?

Guess its ok in your feeble mind to place several truck's with bomb's in them and blow the entire area up, along with all the people walking or living in the area, but when the US Govt and Military finds the cowards who did this act and try to elminate them you find it pathetic?

Look in the mirror, and you will see pathetic. The terrorists killed in the above mentioned airstrike received what they deserved, just 2 years late. They should have been killed when testing their bomb making equipment without hurting any innocent people in the process.

Do you not realize that both my quote and yours were made by the British merchantilists during their empire days of mass killing every place they went to exploit? It wasn't about trade with these people, it was about going there, killing them, and stealing their stuff.

Actually the AC-130 is a very expensive acft. The numbers a few years back were something along the lines of 16 billion/year.

Look into the actual cost, to include a contracting issue and I believe they are more expensive per acft than a B 2 if we don’t include R&D costs.

Fast movers are cheaper but carry larger bangs and have less persistence in munitions. Smaller explosive/ecrs and more precise weaponeering equels easier ROE and increased air to ground munitions.
