Good to see. No place to hide, these perps were evidently part of Al Qaeda who hit the US Embassys in Africa several years ago. They had been sheltered for years in Somalia and now were on the move after being forced out of their hiding spots there. No place in the world to run, no place in the world to hide. They want to see allah, we are just helping them along on their journey. You attack the US and eventually you will pay the price.

Also, you might want to review what the AC-130's effectiveness was in Gulf War I, and in the Mayaguez Incident before pronouncing its prowess too highly.

I think they're fantastic platforms when the environment is permissible, and they are most definitely utterly awe inspiring to see in action. They're upgrading 'em all now with Mk144 30x173mm guns (to replace all the 40mm and 25mm mounts). That's the same caliber as the gun of the A-10. Very, very powerful round. Definitely want to keep them away from high threat levels though. Last edited by m21sniper; 01-09-2007 at 09:32 AM..

Still, it's just more machine gunning the natives because they can't stop you. As the British troopers used to say in Africa, "We shall not fear the Hottentot because we have the Maxim gun and they have not".

Guess its ok in your feeble mind to place several truck's with bomb's in them and blow the entire area up, along with all the people walking or living in the area, but when the US Govt and Military finds the cowards who did this act and try to elminate them you find it pathetic? Look in the mirror, and you will see pathetic. The terrorists killed in the above mentioned airstrike received what they deserved, just 2 years late. They should have been killed when testing their bomb making equipment without hurting any innocent people in the process.

If they could "machine gun" us from the heavens, they would too. "When you lie dying on Afghanistan's plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains, and go to your God like a soldier." ~Kipling Platforms like the AC-130 exist to make sure no American poet ever has to write a poem like that about our boys.

My point wasn't about fair fights, I'd agree with you if the US military was about defending America, but alas, it is not about defending America at all. If it were, Mexican thugs wouldn't be overrunning National Guardsmen along our borders. Last edited by fastpat; 01-09-2007 at 10:05 AM..

IF they shot up the bombers IT WAS A GOOD THING BUT with CIA's record on WMD's and other airstrikes on weddings ect I do WONDER if they are correct kill them all and let god or alla sort them out is NOT good international relations nore policy I want to pay for and only makes for more bombers in the long run

Beep, Actually the AC-130 is a very expensive acft. The numbers a few years back were something along the lines of 16 billion/year. Look into the actual cost, to include a contracting issue and I believe they are more expensive per acft than a B 2 if we don’t include R&D costs. Fast movers are cheaper but carry larger bangs and have less persistence in munitions. Smaller explosive/ecrs and more precise weaponeering equels easier ROE and increased air to ground munitions. Nota, What airstrike on a wedding? S/F, FOG
