Forgot all about this post! The Ferrari sold to its happy new owner, via the eBay auction. It sold to an experienced car guy who knew what he was getting into and was not fazed when he saw the car 'in the flesh'. He'll be able to handle all the body and paintwork himself, which will seriously help his budget. Most of the parts were present, so he should be able to get it restored with a minimum of new parts. Will still cost plenty in interior refurbishment and tune-up parts, though, make no mistake. The ending price was $16k and change.

Was it to the Auckland guy? If not, was that determined to be a scam? Just curious!

If it was simple mechanicals I'd actually have considered it - then I saw the body condition. FORGET IT!!! Not worth it. Once the rust starts it's time to push it out the door and onto someone else - fast. No thanks.

The Auckland guy was offering below reserve, so he was out of the race.

I looked long and hard at buying it for myself - ultimately, interest in preserving my marriage prevailed. The killer is that the owner found several of the missing bodywork bits by the time the buyer came to pick up the car. It definitely reduced the resto cost by thousands. That kills me, because the bodywork certainly wasn't holding me back - the damage was superficial and easy to repair. It was the parts cost. Probably for the best though...

I'm honored to be on the same wavelength as you from time to time, tabs. Instead of buying the Ferrari, I bought another 911...so far, marriage ok. She likes the Targa ;).
