I know the British pound is valuable in relation to the $, but I doubt that 2,000 pounds would touch a car like that...'37 Fat fender cars have been "hot" with the USA street Rod set for quite some time now...

I'd be more interested in that 356 that is in front of it....

I love rat rods when they use real old cars as a starting point, and then build it up leaving the body and interior rough.
They start to get a bit tacky when they are artificially "aged". It's not unlike furniture. I love old furniture, either restored or with original patina. But new furniture that's been torched, beat and sanded to look "aged" seems a bit tacky. That 37 is nice, but I think they took it "aging" a bit far. The primer/rust areas look too symmetrical to be real. Editted for speelign

Jake, you are spot on with the artificial ageing on this particular car-a bit obvious now you point it out

I used to have a fantastic rat rod site bookmarked, but have never been able to find it since.
They were hardcore dudes who thought only sissies rebuilt engines before swapping them in, and paint & primer were strictly forbidden. Used everything, even tires. Repro parts were a no-no. It was more acceptable to use newer (but used) parts than a repro of old stuff. NOS parts are the holy grail. Anyone know what that site is?

That car is fiberglass. There was a write up on it in Street Rodder a month or two ago, and I saw it for sale in the Orange County Auto Trader. The car was at the new Crystal Cove deal at Premier a few weekends ago. It is *****in in person! There is no rat in it, all brand new.

Before I read down the thread I guessed 37 Ford, is that correct?
Still kicking myself for not buying a 37 Dodge I saw for sale locally about fifteen years ago. All original and slightly worn but in good working order... I think they were asking $6000.

No price listed. the artcle was from November. Oze Rod Shop frame,Oze FG body (Quebec, Canada) , Ford nine inch, LS1 chevy. It says in the article that it gets 29mpg with the four speed auto and 2.70 gears. The engine has fake Ardun flatheads bolted to the Chevy valve covers to make it look like a flatty. Looks good.

No FG, smallblock or slushbox. v12 flathead... yeehaw! I always thought a VW rat rod would be Uber cool with Porsche power. Something like one of these: ![]() But imagine it with a 911 2.0

Where in lies the appreciation of a vehicle like that ? I fail to see it.
I am not being a daft ass, simply curious.

I'm out of the loop on that, somebody spent time to make the body look the way it does? Everybody needs a hobby I guess.

I don't get it either. The VW hoodride kids strip off their paint and use various 'tricks' to make the cars rust.
