Stay the Course + 21,500...

Desperate attempt on the part of our leader to rectify all that's gone wrong in Iraq, or is this another step toward the feared quagmire?

NPR states many soldiers, now with Bush's initiative to send more soliders, will be going over for a fourth tour.

Families are breaking up.
Marriages are ending.
Children are growing not knowing their parents.
Post traumatic stress is setting in heavily.
Some consider (especially those on their fourth tours) that they have become ex-patriots; i.e. no longer Americans.

Is more ground forces the answer?

I was listining to a historian talk about it today and he said it is not the answer.

Read my Thread...Bush wore a Blue Tie....

We have NO GOOD option in Iraq or the ME. Bush is right if we bail blood will run in the streets of Iraq and the war will become Regional. Then the USA will have to step in again, this time with an all out do or die outcome. So its better to spend alittle now than alot later.

they should've left Iraq just the way it was before, the most weakened dictatorship on the planet, without any threat to us. they couldn't even fly their own planes, for god's sake.

now look at the mess. the death, the destruction, the high cost. and those responsible still remain unaccountable.

All because of the fourth tour?

And I think you meant to say expatriate, which is certainly not synonymous with ex-patriot.

you have to start from the premise that the war was never justified... everything then will fall into place. only then can we comprehend the magnitude of this debacle

I saw a blog entry that had a good analogy of this mess.

Imagine a patient in the Intensive Care Unit at a large hospital. The patient had a complex surgical procedure, against the advice of many skilled surgeons, involving a high powered, but no so good, surgeon, and numerous assistant surgeons with whom he's in partnership, and there was a major medical error during the procedure. The patient, still alive, was taken to the ICU on life support, including pulmonary support and blood transfusions, but will die if taken off the intervention.

In Iraq, Bush is the surgeon who made the error, oxygen is the money being spent on the "patient", and the "Blood transfusion" are the lives of US government soldiers going inharms way and not surviving, one by one, month by month.

Bush isn't being affected by his malpractice, nor the cost of the "blood transfusion" being given, and maybe increased, this year. Bush doesn't want the patient taken off life support because he doesn't want to face the consequences of his actions, his malpractice.

The issues I raised rises exponentially with each tour. So far four will be the highest number of tours conducted by any member of the military, and those who are on their fourth tours are the individuals with the greatest number of problems.

Thanks for the correction. Yes, I meant expatriot.

Iraq is his malpractice...so far. History will become his malpractice lawsuit if Iraq is not won.

Since "winning" Iraq isn't possible under any known methodology, the only unpredictable outcome is how Bush will fare in the dock.

Yes, impeach the president. After that, what are we left with? President Pelosi? Do we really want that?

Fantastic analogy. For conspiracy theorists.
Back in the real world, the President isn't concerned about being impeached. That's simply a moonbat fantasy.

Good move. Should buy us some time to implement the tougher ROE. Anything to hold off the cut-and-run crowd is positive. YeeHaw!

Wait, Fint. I thought that you said we were winning? It was the liberal press that said that we were failing. You even posted that fine article by Ann coulter that explained how our casualty rates have been in decline since the start of the war to back it up with "facts".

So what is the deal?

As far as I am concerned, cut and run is what we are going to get in the end. The neo-cons won't call it that, but it will amount to the same thing. Of course, we wouldn't have had to cut and run if we hadn't pursued this idiotic side show to the real war on terror.

If Bush weren't worried, he'd not try to include exculpatory wording into legislation he's proposed to congress. It's fair to say, he's not just worried, he's petrified of impeachment and jail.
