Oregon pinot noir, what is it about this stuff?

What is so special about these Oregon Pinots? The are all velvety, smooth and clean. I have NEVER had a bad one......ever. I just pickup up a Costco branded one expecting little and it too is fantastic ($14). I need one of you guys to ship me a friggen cargo container of this stuff.

No way this bottle sees the ass end of 9:00, hell I may even engage CC in an argument.......it's THAT good:D

I've had a few good ones, too. Certainly the most famous grape Oregon is known for.

I did not know that, it explains my luck, thanks.

I'm having a Little Penguin Pinot from Australia right now.

Not a fan of Pinot's but I like this one. Goes down real easy which may be a problem for me;)

Best description I can come up with is the bite of a good hearty Merlot with a hint of spice but a light finish like a white.

And they give a portion of proceeds to a Penguin rescue group if that matters to you.

Hell I'm on bottle two, I'm a total lush....yea I know. Also I'm north of 300 el-bees these days so it takes a bit.

This is another Pinot but a Cali Caneros Creek Reserve. A bit more smokey than the Oregon but every bit as good. This is one I buy over and over.

If you think Oregon wine is good, you should try it's beer! (edit)
Actually, Willamette Vinyards is maybe 25 miles North of me. I can't legally ship the stuff, but they can. You can probably buy it for a lot less through costco though. I shipped a selection of theirs to a friend in Denver...think it cost around $80 for 4 bottles.
Remember...the finest Oregon Pinot is still just booze.

Germany ruined me for beer, but I haven't given up the search:)

You haven't been to Oregon. Microbrews here are very good...

We actually have some really good micros here as well.

What say you and I start the Pelican exchange program? I send you a sixer of a good one from here a you do the same?

pwd72s 01-16-2007 06:42 PM

Can't do it legally here...USPS won't ship booze, and under Oregon state law, neither will UPS, Fedex, etc. Crazy protectionism stuff, but penalties are severe.

lendaddy 01-16-2007 06:43 PM

Interesting, I don't know what the laws here on that stuff.

stomachmonkey 01-16-2007 06:48 PM

Not only are there restrictions on shipping booze, you can't even use the boxes that the stuff came in to ship different items. My wife is ebaying a crap load of stuff right now.

USPS will not accept the boxes.

BTW, I'm pretty *****faced right now. How bout you?

I'm nearing the point of no return.:D

Lange and Domaine Drouhin are my favorite Oregon Pinots. What a heartbreaking place to grow though.

If I'm shipping non-commercially, I go to a mail boxes etc. or Staples and label the contents, "Grape Juice".

Can someone please ship me a few bottles of the good stuff? This is the one varietal & region that I've really never seen anything impressive in. I have heard great things about certain pinots from OR from people whose opinion I trust though, and I want to see what all the fuss is about. I've just never had a bottle that made me sit up and take notice. Granted though, my tastes run, in this order from greatest to least preference: Cab, Cab/Merlot, Zin, Merlot.

And while we're comparing notes: tonight was a rather young bottle of Stag's Leap, last night was a '96 Pauillac grand cru. Yeah, I gagged 'em down. No, I can't afford either of them, but I happily drink them when I can.

Like I said, the Vineyards can ship to you...

Oregon has a lot of wineries... the above booze peddlers will ship right to your door....

I always loved Bell's Solsun ale. I have never seen Bell's for sale here on the west coast.

I guess you're not talking about Bohemien or Rheinlander.
I wasn't very wealthy during my tenure in Oregon.
