Why does the Internet seem to be dominated by U.S. data?

Every time I Google something - and that's often - I am struck by the search results. 99% of what I see is content from U.S. -based websites. Wondering why this is? The U.S. population is such a small amount compared to the rest of the English-speaking world. Yes, I know online access as a percentage of population is very high here.... but that doesn't seem to explain the high level of saturation. Wondering if it has something to do with our culture and society? Thoughts?

Who's a bigger English-speaking country than the U.S.?

The U.K., Ireland, Canada, and Australia put together don't make up the population of the U.S..

Richard, Google is separated by country. Go to google.de or google.fr and do a search.

Or www.google.co.uk

I do it all the time as well as search out things in the UK or Germany (.de) on Ebay. Shipping is not that expensive for most things and really opens up your market.

Been looking for a set of '70's Lucas Square 8 lights for a project. They sell all the time here in the US for $100+. Price on Ebay in the UK is about $20 plus $15 in shipping. Which one would you buy? :)

Lucas and lights, isn't that an oxymoron

BlueSkyJaunte 01-17-2007 02:33 PM

I guess you'd call them "darks", for lack of a better term.

Also your IP, State, town, Internet Provider, Operating System, Browser type, screen resolution, language, etc.... are all collected instantly when you hit a site.

You'll get geographically logical results partly based on some of that info.

They are powered by a Chrysler alternator. I learned quickly that if you swap the Lucas alternator out with an American version that the car was a lot more reliable.

worth repeating on this wandering thread.....
