Credit cards--which one do you use for rewards/points/airline miles?
Does anyone charge every penny they spend on a credit card for points/miles or whatever and then pay off each month? Seems like a good plan in theory--which cards offer the most for $$ spent? Any practical experience here?

Im getting ready to go to an AmEx gold for all of my expenses. The additional warranties, concierge service, and the access to the advance ticketmaster purchases are worth the $75 yearly charge, IMO.
I've used the promo cards that offer the free 10,000 or 15,000 points/miles with the first purchase, but the key is to find one that doesn't require a membership or charge a yearly fee. The Marriott Chase cards were like this. |
We use our AmEx for most expenses, large or small.

Visa
my parents literally buy everything on it from $1 purchases to multi-thousand dollar purchases. however, the bill is paid in full each month |
Been using a CitiBank American Airlines card for years. Almost 700,000 miles/points on it now. Want to get to the 1,000,000 so I am gold for life with AA.
Also now using an AmEx 3/2/1 card from Costco. Rebate last year was about $380 on an old card and believe I can double that this year. |
My mom uses Discover and pays it off each month. She gets cash back. Right now, she has 140 dollars in it.
I just use my debit. |

Master Card from local credit union. 1% cash back on all purchases and we pay of the balance every month. Charge everything we buy on it and typically get back around $400 -$500 each year. No annual fee and low interest rate.

EVERYTHING goes on the card. My card pays a flat 1% on all purchases. I pay it off every month and get a nice bonus for the privilege of keeping my money in the bank until the credit card bill comes due.

I used to have American Air, but switched over to Alaska Air. Every year, I get a $50 companion coupon. Anywhere they fly, my wife goes for an extra $50.
Over the years, the two of us have flown to Europe twice and several other cross country flights on frequent flyer miles. I'm building a house and was able to put a lot a my credit card to get the miles. Put $30,000 of cabinets/granite counters on the CC. |
I use Amex heavily for personal and business charges, and my wife does too. Across the accounts we have >225,000 pts right now so it's about time to do sumthin' with 'em.

We have an Amazon Visa, we get a $25 gift certificate for Amazon every $2500. Works great to clean out that wish list.
Oh, we get free 1st class usually on Delta because of my father-in-law's super-ultra-multi-platinum status with them. He flies back-and-forth to Japan A LOT. |
Have 3 cards depending on the purchase type
AmEx Hilton Platinum for travel Chase MC Fuel perks for gas Credit Union Visa for all the rest Have NEVER carried a balance Crooks |
2 BofA Debit Cards, 1 Corportate Amex, 1 Paypal Debit, 1 Fidelity Debit. No credit cards.
I get miles for flying to Asia almost monthly with NWA and Hotel points with the Hyatt when i am in Asia. I think I have enough miles to go to Hawaii round trip 15 times. |
