Windows Media warning
 

Beth had a windows pop-up alerting her she had some updates eady to install. Since this is how she is setup it was a normal thing. The update was for the Media player, it updated it to 11. When she finished and re-booted her computer she had lost all of her info and the computer had locked up. We managed to revive the computer with a backdate to 12/31. We called and found out there is a problem with the update. Be carefull with your upgrades.
I did mine a couple of months ago and had no problems, so it is recent.

Never, never, NEVER do the automatic updates!!!

I disagree with this entirely.

For the vast majority of consumers, they are better off leaving automatic updates turned on. This will ensure that they are getting critical security updates and hotfixes. You may decide to decline updates on occasion (I have never updated to IE7), but on the whole, leaving machines unpatched is a poor idea.

i had it too and it did some funky shat to my box. weird thing at the end, a windows generated deal warned me not to finish, so i did not. my computer acted strange for a few hours.
