DIY network Classic Rides; great metal guy lately

DIY network is starting to get more time than NASCAR/BJ AUCTION network (aka Speed Channel) in my house.

Did anybody else see the guy doing the refurb on the Indian? Absolutely fantastic to watch. Explained everything he was doing very carefully AND included the why as well. They still had the obligatory metrosexual dimwitted host but at least the guest 'worker' (to borrow a term from the Chief Dimwit himself) was entertaining.

Chris Matthews has done quite a lot with vintage motorcycles and is great at metal work. He's been on Monster Garage and American Chopper as well. Craig Reynolds, the host, knows a lot too, but had to play it down so there would be a reason for Chris to explain everything. Glad you like the show though..

Garage
I agree, I am watching them work on the Fastback Mustang on the show right before the Classic Rides show. I thought how he explanined the process of lacing up a spoke wheel was very interesting.

TGTIW that guy deserves his own prime time show and is in a league FAR above the 'look what i ordered and bolted together' bike shows.

How about a 'getting started in MIG welding' show/series hosted by him?

I'm hoping for another season. I would love to do a cafe racer next.

I'm the Producer.

It's a fun show, and extremely frustrating to finding a balance between tailoring the show for people who know absolutely nothing and those who could restore the bike themselves.

I have been pushing to do a Norton or Moto-Guzzi next, but so far no answers.

The particular show mentioned was great...the work on the tank was terrific.
Good luck.

Wow. TG that is very cool! Mr. Matthews has a very cool way about him and i hope you will continue to feature his work. Struck me as a very genuine guy.

The 'balance' you found for the shows i just watched is absolutely perfect. It's always a bummer when the actual work is blown past and the end result is 1/2 the show. Were you involved in the scooter restoration as well? My wife's father enjoyed that one immensely as he has two older Honda scoots and a very cool monster Cushman scoot.

I think the best thing for you guys to do next is my '70 911T. Lots of fun projects to be done like fabricating seat mounts, welding in a new front pan, refurbing the gas tank, new fuel lines, etc..

Erik

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. No, I wasn't with the company when they did the Vespa. This season is the first one for me as a Producer, I was in post-produciton before that. I also helped out on the Classic Car show, the 65 Mustang fastback, but only on a few technical issues. I had put together a "wish list" of cars I thought we should do for the next season:
70’s Porsche 911
70’s Porsche 914
1971 – 1974 BMW 2002
Original Mini Cooper – 1964
Triumph GT6
1968-1970 Dodge Charger
1970 Ford Torino GT
1978 Pontiac Trans Am

Since I don't have anything I want redone , I can say that the Indian show is MUCH better than the Vespa show.

No kidding, well done.

Now, if you decide to redo a MF Tractor, let's have a meeting
