My New Spoon
|
That's a really nice spoon. I see it's got both a handle *and* the bowl (?) section.
Would you like a fork too? ;) |
"IT"S A LADEL! A LADEL!"
nice spoon, I guess.. for $350 I'd expect it to fly to the kitchen and scoop ice cream for me. |
Damn, for that kind of money you could have bought a rebuilt Ferrari water pump!
|
$360 was cheap the last one like it sold for $475 on the Bay...
|
Ted - do you eat off these spoons, or display them behind glass?
|
I use them if I have a Formal Dinner..otherwise they rest behind Iron Doors..http://www.allanadler.com/
|
Sweet - collecting is cool. I'm currently collecting 911 mufflers.

All this time I thought you collected those chintzy "state spoons" you see at truck stops.

I collect Porter Blanchard and Allan Adler Sterling Silver..more or less. PBs family goes back to the Revoulutionary War as Silver Smiths. Porter came out to CA in 1923 and it wasn't long before he had a thriving business. He and Clementts Friedell are the 2 most famous Arts & Crafts Silver Smiths in CA. Freidell was known for his early Rose Bowl Trophys. Allan Adler was apprenticed to Porter Blanchard and learned the trade from him. Blanchard was Adlers Father in law. From what I gathered they didn't get along. Adler was known for his Modern Style. LACMA holds a number of pieces by these guys. Their work is Art that U can use.
Like I said a gal I know showed me her Silver Set and I said this is worthwhile having, I gotta get some of this. A set of Adlers Flatware sold at auction for $18000.00 in 2005. So we are not talkin about some cheap a$$ ***** here, but real man of wealth and taste stuff. |
My spoon is too big. So that is where that comes from. My teen and her friends were saying that over and over and laughing hysterically. I thought it was some sort of code for dad is a dork. thanks for sharing.

That's pretty funny. Love your username tabs. While I have no idea why anyone would pay that much for a spoon, I find it very interesting that people do. We have such a wide range of hobbies/interests, keeps things interesting.
The spoon is really handmade? Impressive. |
