No Len. We all admire a champion and a good competitor. That's part of the American spirit, and we do admire that. But some folks idolize the win-at-any-cost players and others prefer some temperance. When you get cut off in traffic, do you just stare in admiration at the rear end of the car that took the cheap shot? Greed and the crushingly effective use of power is more attractive to some people than others. I wish the pure capitalists here could have their own country. There, you could see the shape of the End Game where the unregulated survival-of-the-fittest value is taken to the extreme you guys think you want. At the end of that day, only one office will have a view. |
The fraility of mankind requires some limits on power. Without that, we would degerate into absolute chaos.
Nobility for its own sake is rare. |
My wife works for the SOS of Wyoming, and the previous SOS is good friends with Cheney. He is like a lot of folks from Wyoming, staunch values, etc.
I agree with Tim and the others. |

First time I met him, he had just landed at Halliburton and was speaking at Pitt on the length of time between weapons design and deployment. It was a pretty small venue and there was a few crunchy kids there, who I was sure were gonna start trouble about the Gulf War. But after the speech, Cheney stayed and took every single question and shook hands with everyone.
One of the crucnhy kids, obviously no BUsh I voter, stood up and told Cheney he was a rhetorical studies major and was just swayed by Cheney's speaking style and asked how he developed it. Cheney chuckled and said it came from living in WY, going to town hall meetings and hanging with those kinds of people. Had to be there, but it was very funny. I wonder how that kid feels about Cheney now. |
If you listen to a preacher long enough you may just start to belive in God. Watch an info-merical long enough and you may need that left-handed screwdriver. Hang around the midwest long enough and you may think the Blacks and Hispanics are in cahoots with the Canadians to destroy America.
A convincing argument is not always a truthful argument. |
