Your gonna get a ticket if you say that

Texas Mayor Wants to Outlaw the N-word

Just read this a min ago. I am sure everyone here agrees that it is an ignorant word to use.

But come on, sounds like someone is pandering for votes.
Sort of what Mr. Nifong here in NC did about the non-rape case at Duke. At least he now has the NC Bar association and the NC AG on his ass. Nothing like wasting tax payer money.

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes and when I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.

I went up to him and said, "Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break"?

He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a "Nazi." Yes, one of the 'N' words....

He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires.

So then I called him a "Doughnut eating Gestapo."

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Personally, I didn't care. I came downtown on the bus and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said "Hillary in '08."

I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important for my health.

fing,

That is funny. :)

Seems a bit silly and over the top, but I'm game as long as everyone gets ticketed for using it.

I personally think it's a slippery slope. As the article points out, the first amendment protects free speech - even unpopular speech.

Besides, the fundamental problem here is that you can censor words, but you cannot censor ideas.

If you ban the word nigger, what's next? Do you ban "coon"? Do you ban "darkey"? Now what about the next step? When do you ban kike, wop, dago, and mook?

When do you ban "cracker" and "honkey"?

Look... in the course of human history, we're only a "few years" beyond a LOT of hatred. It will take a few more years. But as a society advances and evolves, the words will fall out of use by their own accord. We don't need some asinine jerk-water politician trying to make a name for himself to start pushing unconstitutional laws down our throats.

The offensive words I have used in this post are to illustrate that there exists a plethora of words that one group or another find offensive, and to illustrate the futility of a law such as the one proposed. I in no way mean to infer that anyone here is thought of in a pejorative manner, or as a nigger, coon, darkey, kike, wop, dago, mook, craker, honkey, or dirty jew bastard.

That's freakin' hilarious.

Nominated for post of the month.

Knowing how things are on the fringes of Houston, I would guess the real point of the law is not to prevent whites from using it, if you catch my drift.

red-beard 01-25-2007 03:02 PM

I have to tell you, I have only heard one person actually use the word since I've been back to Texas. And the person was white, and he is an offensive lout.

When I was a kid here in the early 1970's the word did get used. It's funny. When I was in Upstate NY, the only word that was used like that was: "Spics", talking about the Puerto Ricans that moved into NYC. And you certainly don't hear that anymore.

I think nigger would not even be used at all today, if it weren't being perpetuated by the African American community.
