'hear the drummer get wicked!'
every drum sound you hear is a single key stroke. this is dedication! after 1 min 20 youre thinking 'hes good at this...' from 1 min 50 it goes to a different level. Amazing

Sounds a tad like Dennis Chambers. Pretty cool.

That guy's good -- no disagreement there. But being a former (or is non-practicing a better term) drummer myself, I have to admit that it's often easier to do things with 10 fingers then with 2 sticks. If you watch closely, he's using some of his other fingers on occasion. Not to mention the inertia that you have overcome on the polyrhythems is easier on something as small and light as a finger as opposed to a stick.
Check out how many notes Danny Saraphine is "throwing away" in this performance. The video doesn't do him justice! Or else there's the sticking master: "Ruddy Bich"

The fact that I couldn't even comprehend or imagine some of the stuff that this guy does is one of the reason that I came to the conclusion that I'd done what I was going to do on the drums, and it was time to move on to the next phase of my life.

There are so many good drummers today, I wouldn't know where to start. I have almost quit admitting that I used to be a drummer, of sorts. I wasn't even close....
One of my favorites is Rodney Holmes. If I was smart enough to post one of those nifty video links in this post, I would. Since I am not, you'll have to click this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFxUoPqnXEU JR |

That Neil Peart clip made me think of another guy who's been known for overplaying, or incredible virtuosity. Carl Palmer. It's just all a case of practicing the rudiments. Repeat after me...

I have a photo of me with Will Calhoun somewhere. Hung out with him on the Stones Steel Wheels tour and again on their Time's Up tour about a year later. Excellent drummer.

Back to the original post...that guy is good....if he had been around in the 80s he could have made a bundle as a "session musician"...maybe he still can.
Of course, drum machines are a lot more flexible and better sounding then they were back in those days... Here he is on a real kit...the kid can jam: Thanks for the Danny Seraphine video... didnt think anyone else appreciated him. And the Muppet...that little guy could stick! And then there was this guy...
So powerful, yet so precise. A couple of years ago, someone uploaded outtakes of Bonzo from the In Through the Outdoor Sessions. It was basically his kit taken directly from the board....you could hear the track in his headset while he grunted and played along. It was amazing. I have them on a hard disk somewhere. |
