Recommend a new printer - wide format

It's been a long time since I purchased a printer. I'm looking for one that can be used for normal home office tasks, but would also like to be able to print larger format (maybe 11x14, or larger???) with photo-quality.

Anyone have any thoughts? I have no idea who makes quality printers these days, what features/specs to look for, etc.

Thanks,
Skip

What kinda stuff do you need to print?

It's hard to go wrong with HP, although they aren't a bulletproof as they used to be and you'll pay out the cloaca for ink.

we have an old xante at work that does the wide format... however, if the wide format will be a one or three prints once in a while job, get a smaller printer and use a local copy shop or photo shop wtih teh *really* high end stuff.

Most will be normal "home office" stuff - on 8.5x11. However, periodically we could really use 11x14 - for large spreadsheets, project plans, etc.

So, since I'm considering wide format, I thought it would be nice to be able to print photo quality at that size as well. Kind of DIY wall art for track photos, vacation, etc.

Honestly, I'm not even sure what I don't know... Do I need to look for a "photo" printer? Is there a difference? Can photo printers be used for office tasks?

I don't care about printing directly from a camera, having an LCD screen, etc.

Brother printers are very good and I've purchased many for clients and have never had a problem with them...

I've always had good success with Epson printers. Currently have a Stylus Photo 1280 good for up to 13" x 19". Have printed many of my own photos at 11 x 14 and higher for framing with excellent results. ~$500.
