Thinking About Going to the 12 Hours of Sebring Race...
After attending my first official ALMS race at Lime Rock this summer, and absorbing as much Daytona coverage as possible this weekend, I am considering flying down to Florida for the 12-hour Sebring race in March.
My aunt and uncle have a winter house about 2 miles from the track; my parents also have a home in West Palm Beach. I am pretty sure that my aunt and uncle would be down there still in March, and it would be nice to spend some time with them. It would also be VERY nice to get out of this New England weather for awhile. Granted, by March it will be much warmer than it is now, but it would be nice to start the spring relaxed and with a nice tan. My responsibilities would be easy to work around. I work 5-6 days a week, but I should have some vacation time coming to me. I am also working on my Master's Thesis, but I can always pack books and my laptop. Have any of you attended the race? It looks like a great time. Any Pelicaners in the area? |
Northeast weather can REALLY suck sometimes in March. I've wanted to go to Sebring for a long time but not this year unfortunately. I still haven't ruled out RRIII at Daytona in November though.

Thats the end of bike week season, start/middle of spring break season. Good thing you have relatives to stay with, 'cause there ain't gonna be a hotel room for miles. Maybe take a tent and sleep in the ocala national forest.

I've been going to the 12 Hours of Sebring since I moved to Florida 13 years ago. It is a experience that can't be described the fans are really into the weeks events. It's different from many tracks as it is flat and there aren't many traditional stands or bleachers. There are "viewing mounds" in various places around the track. My son and I pack some lawn chairs and roam around the track. It is a great event. I also recommend the Petit Lemans race at Road Atlanta. I've gone to that 2 years now and the elevation changes are impressive. Come on down you won't be disappointed.

Yeah I'm thinking about it, and/or the ALMS race in St. Pete's in April. Kinda depends on work and who I can get to come with me...
I've been talking about the 36 hours of Sebring. 12 hour drive down, 12 race, 12 hour drive home! B |
