Vacation advice - Greece

Has anyone here vacationed in Greece?

My wife and I may be going on a 14 day sailing trip with friends in Greece and would love some recommendations on where to go. We are going to be island hopping so we would like some recommendations on beaches and clubs to go to.

Thanks in advance....

i was born in Athens... great city to see ruins/museums/attractions, etc... get ready to do a lot of walking though... do not rent a car. use a taxi or the train.

2 summers back we went on our honeymoon to Santorini. If you like the exotic, then this is the place for you. visit The Red Beach and take a dip in the volcanic springs.. also, get ready to pay some big bucks for a room with a view... great island for walking/attractions. bring your camera because you'll be taking photos every 5 mins.

Crete is also very nice.. My grandmother lives there - she's 99 years old....you need about 2 weeks+ to see all of Crete . gorgeous mountain roads, cool monasteries, beaches, + awsome food!

I work with a guy whose wife is from Greece and her family all still lives there. He just got back from a vacation there a couple of months ago. I can ask him your question and get his input if you like?

What 14 day period upcoming and what are your fixed starting and ending points if any? Any fixed accomodations to work around? I'll let you know the answer I get.

Crete (Kriti) is pretty incredible as I spend two weeks there 2 years ago. See some of the old cities like Rethymion with their old forts and tiny Venetian streets. Or the Knossos ruins.

Rent a car and get outta the tourist areas/cities and see the small villiages and eat the local food. Point to order or let them bring it to you as it is amazing and sooo cheap. Best meals we had were in small village squares eating with the local men outside for 7 euros trying to talk to each other.

All the beaches are good, if fact you can pull off a small road and just dive in as who cares.

Great thanks everyone,

We are scheduled to be there June 16th through the 30th. We will be sailing on a 55 foot catamaran and will not need any hotels or accommodations as such.

But we will be looking for touristy things to do and beautiful beaches to check out.

we are still talking about our trip including the two kids (16&19) we all want to go back. They look at the pics all the time talking about it and they have been to many places around the world.

Have vacationed there for years and love it. Usually end up on Kos but have been to many of the other islands.

Try Retsina. You will either love or hate it.

BTW, Bleyseng you can post more than one photo on each post. No need to post 5-6 posts with only one photo each.

I spent a year "on assignment" in Kavala, up in northern Greece headed towards Turkey. Off the tourist path for sure, but the ferry boats from southern Greece do land there so not too isolated. A little more "rugged" than the Athens area. I'm saving my pennies, I want a return trip.

Wow, thanks everyone.

Keep the suggestions coming, how about clubs or party places?
