Pit bulls attacks redux

Sweet! A pit bull attacks this guy, and he kills it with his bare hands. Maybe this is another argument for CCW

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=local&id=4988044

Interesting note at the bottom:

We have some numbers on dog attacks in Harris County and pit bulls are at the top. In 2006, there were 244 pit bull attacks. Labradors were involved in 164 attacks, followed by German shepherds, Chihuahuas and chows with 55 attacks. Harris County tells us it has seen an increase in the number of pit bulls it's taken in.

Chihuahuas !!!!
o no death grip on a little finger the horror

Somewhere there's an owner that's gonna' sue now claiming his "right" to own whatever kind of dog he damn well pleases has been violated.

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners, but the world (and the dog) is better off today.

I had a couple of chili dogs for lunch and they're already attackin' my a$$....

Yep. Too bad some people already know what is better for everyone else.

tough old dude.

What surprised me was the stat at the bottom of the article. The second most number of attacks were by Labradors?!!

What, does everyone in that town walk around wearing ham sandwich costumes?!

My two Labradors wouldn't attack anyone unless it was to knock them to the ground to lick food off their face.

You know, I've only ever known a few pits and they WERE sweethearts. Mean looking sweathearts but they were very friendly.

show me a link,
Lab's have seldom made any attack list..much less # 2
if a Lab attacks you..you just might have it coming.

Hmm, Harris County, Texas. I would be willing to bet they have a substantially higher population of hunting Labs than domestic pit bulls, by a factor of several hundred fold. Pit bulls are almost exclusively city and suburban dogs; you won't find many in rural America. They don't hunt. It would be interesting to see the number of attacks in Harris County expressed as a relationship to the breeds' populations.

Rikao4 02-01-2007 10:43 AM

If you CAN use your Lab to hunt, he would be very well trained, thus very controlled.
this a just another 'Pit eats grandpa, pics at six..with bullsh#t filler

Sure they do. They're used heavily for hog hunting. Quick, small, strong and tenacious (like all terriers). I can't think of a breed which is better suited for that task - they're excellent at it. Of course, the hog wins a lot of the time, which is I don't go hog hunting with dogs.

Rural America is full of Pitts. It's just the ones you hear about are inner-city.

As a terrier, Chip is a tenacious hunter of lizards and gophers. He uses that mouth and those paws to dig like a trencher run amok - and catches them...

My father was a cop/detective for 30 years and said that he never heard of a dog bit from a Retriever, only from Pit Bulls and terriers, usually "the smaller the more likely to bite"... It's interesting that Retrievers come in #2 on this list.

I'd love to see some news stories about those chihuahua attacks!

The recount from the victim would probably be pretty good, how he fended off 4 lbs. of pure terror.

AP Wire, San Diego, CA: Pedro Jiminez relives the day when he almost became yet another needless statistic in the string of fatal and near fatal Chihuahua attacks.

"I was just walkin' down the street, minding my own business. The beast was on the other side of the street. I made the mistake of making eye contact, which it viewed as a sign of weakness, I guess."

Without warning, the loose animal sprinted across the street, and threw itself at the terrified Jiminez.

"He leaped through the air, man, I didn't think he could get up so high!" Jiminez says softly, as he recounts how the creature latched onto his pant leg, several inches above his ankle. "I'm just glad that thing couldn't jump 3 feet higher, if ya know what I mean," Jiminez joked, without a smile. "Or, if it had been able to penetrate through my pants - it could have maybe broken my skin!"

After having to shake his leg several times to dislodge the crazed monster, the onslaught continued, as the animal ran about, yapping incessantly.

The terror continued, until the quick-thinking Jiminez, drawing on his days on the soccer fields of his native San Felipe, punted the would-be-killer canine a distance of approximately 23 feet. "At that point, I figured it was either me or him," Jiminez said with a shrug. "Plus, that yapping was getting really annoying."

lets see the list..all we have is a reporter spouting drivel.
if Labs were attacking folks in the #'s claimed ...we would hear more.
Like the Pit bash
Labrador eats mom, and 3 infants,
grandmother mauled by choco Lab.
my rottie knocked down a mail carrier who opened my screen door.
this was classified as 'attack'
had to pay for 2 weeks of observation / to make sure she had no rabies.
Pascha did nothing but lick the dumb b@tch.
