MS in Engineering Geology from Imperial College, London. (although I'm from California)

Couldn't do this career w/o an MS. Now own my own engineering company.

my racing amigo in baja while we were working at garrett together got his eng. degree from asu. then got his masters in geology from asu. all on garretts dime.

he then transfered to germany w/garrett, making supremo bucks. then got kidnapped by rolls royce for even bigger bucks doing more of the same in-flight test cell flight eng. do-daa stuff. not w/out a few hazardous moments when TFE's decided to take a crap in mid air! then transfered to L.A. with rolls royce. got caught up like myself in aerospace down turn in 1997 and quit before being layed off. bought house in yuma,az. bought house in san felipe, baja norte. sold house in yuma.............lives full time in baja racing all 3 races during the year and is writing another book on the geologic features of baja norte/sur.

not bad for a "monkee" on a off road norton wasp SIDEHACK!

his response to getting my masters has been..........DO IT! the only thing you will regret is the drive/the time/the money. at the very least you can say you did it. and at the very worst..........you have a nice piece of sheepskin on the wall.

i'm seriously steering towards doing it. i think i would rather be over-edumacated than under-edumacated!

I have half an MBA. Got a full time offer during my Summer Internship, the company gave me a full MBA offer and pick up my tuition bill for the rest.

Was it worth the investment? Absolutely.

I am the business guy managing the business side of things for several video games franchises for a large software company.

Added: My mom always said more education never hurts. I expect all my children to get at least a Master's Degree.

BS in Biochemistry, MS in Chemistry

Was already working while I finished the thesis. Got a $5000 raise the day I did. I would of neither advanced as I did nor got the jobs I have had without the MS. Definitely worth the investment.

I feel differently from the folks that do not feel their degrees apply to their current jobs.

It is not how much i use my elementary school math skills or Porter's 5 Forces. Beyond the life lessons, it is learning how to think through issues, work with others, get results and solve problems that matter.

School (especially grad school) is gymnastics for the brain, what you do with the strength, flexibility and mental toughness you built is up to you.

MS+ in EE. It was been a huge help in my early career, and I feel that I still benefit from it today.

My undergrad was in Business, with a concentrations in MIS and Operations. I used that background to get me my first job at a major electronics equipment manufacturer. I found the things that I learned there helpful. After about 10 years, I used one of the company perks to get my MBA (company paid), this time in Marketing. While it didn't net me any more money off the bat, it did "get my ticket punched" so that I was on on par with my competition for the type of jobs that I did want. I'm sure it contributed (along with my work history and stuff like that) when I made the jump from operations to Marketing at a different division. From there it was a smaller jump to being a salesman who works from home.

- Did my MBA result in immediate more money? Nah.
- Would I have my current job and income without the MBA? Most likely not.
- Did I learn useful stuff during my MBA? Absolutely. As a result of the 10 years between my BS and my MBA, I got a sense of my strengths and weaknesses, what I liked and what I didn't like. It also gave me a wealth of experience in business strategies and processes that I was able to apply during my studies. As a result I was able to use my MBA to fill-in my weaknesses in such things a stats, gaming theory, negotiation and finance, and develop further my strategic understanding.

So at the end of the day, it's what you make of it. Could you do my current job without an MBA? Sure, if you have the right experience. Heck, my boss doesn't have an MBA. But I think that you will be far better equiped, with many more tools at your disposal if you do get the advanced degree.

PS: At least in the case of an MBA, I think it's worth it to wait a few years after your BS/BA before going back to school. But don't wait too long though, because once you get married, it gets a little harder to commit the time, and once you have kids (especially those who are old enough to recognize that you're not there), it gets exponentially harder to commit the time.

I wanna go back and get my PhD in Industrial Engineering at UT Arlington. I figuered out how to do it in a few years and get paid pretty darn good for it as well. Now I just have to get a few ends tied up - maybe 2010 as a start.

BS Physics. No use to me now. Skipped the MS thing. I mostly need a psych degree for most of my interactions rather than an MD.

MS Information Technologies - Can't say that I need it, my coworkers both of them are high school graduates with military experience. I do IT architecture work, and to my knowledge they never even asked me about it. I used to work for Siemens in the same capacity and they actually paid for my degree, but it was never a condition of employment.

BS in Criminal Justice

Finishing my MS in Criminal Justice this semester.

My BS helped me get both of my jobs so far. I think my MS got me started in the application process for what I hope will be my next job and the job I will make a career out of. I'm waiting on the answer to that now.

If not someday I plan on getting my for real PHD and becoming a professor. Maybe.

BS - Environmental and Business Economics
MBS - Finance concentration

Would I have my current job without my MBA? No
Do I use the things I learned in school? Sometimes, but not on a daily basis
