Any Experience with Toshiba Satellite Notebooks?

OK - I know I'm beating this dead horse but I really need another laptop and have recently heard great things about the Toshiba Satellite Notebooks.

Any opinions? (BTW, I still have not given up on the Mac)

Mike I have two and love them both! If the mac's weren't so expensive, I'd buy one!

Have used the toughbook and liked it but it was company issued and not one that I would buy personally.

I can get a Pano toughbook at cost (we actually sell them to go with an asset management system we have) but it would still be over 2 large - I really don't want to go over $1200. They are pretty cool though.

The satellite I'm using right now is 10 years old and still going strong!!!

If you watch the ads at Office Depot, you can catch them (toshiba notebooks) on sale for around $700!

They have at least 7 different versions at Best Buy. The Duo processor is a must, I also like the bio-metrics feature (but I really don't need that.). Beyond that I am not sure what to get, any help?

My Satellite has been very good to me for 4 years.

Base your purchase on your needs! How are you going to use it?

M.D. Holloway 02-03-2007 08:35 AM

Writing articles and presentations, web surfing maybe even watching vids on the plane. I will also run QuickBooks for the LLC.

I personally would base my purchase on price! Unless you have a specific need for mega power, anything you purchase in a Satellite notebook will do the job!!

First of all, Satellites are excellent. Toshiba only makes notebooks, and their reputation with the business community is top notch.

I also pillage Office Depot if I am looking for a single laptop. Wait for their floor models to go on sale, then bully their sales person into giving you a further discount. I have just about stole 3 laptops from them. Great deals.

Also most cities have local business's that specialize in notebook sales and service. These guys normally sell notebooks that have recently come off business leases and you can get good deals. I purchased about 2 years ago my Dell Lattitude notebook for $350.00 and it has been rock solid. It may not have all the latest bells and whistles but for what I need it is just fine. I think local support is a plus when making the buying decision.

I can recommend Dell laptops as that is what I have purchased for clients and have had positive experience with them.

I did factory warranty laptop repair for Toshiba. In my opinion, the Satellite series is terrible. Majority of those models have problems and are serviced multiple times. A75 models fans that clog all of the time. A105 motherboards are terrible and are being replaced multiple times. M35X is in all of the time with MB problems.

Satellite Pro and Tecra are better. Tecra 6100 sucks in the worst way possible. Toshiba has a life time warranty with them. They keep coming back with the same problems. I refused to work on them anymore.

That said, the old Toshiba's were rock solid. I have one that is ten years old and still running 24/7. These days I use a Fujitsu.
